I always have a hard time with these "all time" things. Just from my lifetime, three that stick out are Messier, Iginla, and Yzerman. Those guys embody what a great Captain should be.

Mess was a leader early on in his career ... I guess later in his career too only he decided to lead us into the crapper

i have no problem with him on the poll ... obvious choice to be there for his early work

this vote, forget the article but the vote, is probably the most fair one you could have in an 'all time' discussion, i don't think leadership really ever changes.

Absolutely, he was a great captain but he wasn't the most vocal. If he was more quotable or had a bigger personality I think he would receive more recognition. But like Dash said he was clutch.
