I can certainly understand the criticism of pacing through the mid stages of the movie especially as you come into it thinking it is more focused on the Manson stuff(at least I did) rather than it being more of a backdrop to the real narrative.

I finished it this morning. Perhaps it was reading some initial reactions of the film I adjusted my expectations from when it came out over the summer.

I knew the gist of what it was about (not the Manson family per se) and could really enjoy the acting and theming.

It wasn’t so much a movie about making movies in Hollywood in 69....as it was a movie about Hollywood in 69. It was slow at points, but I found myself really locked into the performances from DiCaprio and Pitt. Phenomenal.

At risk I will say one more things and spoiler wrap it......

Silly me....I did not stop and think this could be a historical retelling as known facts were concerned, a la Inglorious Basterds. Admittedly the ending of that one bugged me a little (the first viewing anyway). But as soon as I saw it here I just went with it and enjoyed it in all of its Tarantino glory.

was watching it off & on tonight.
Busy doing other things during it.
I can see I am gonna have to sit down & watch it all the way through. Seems like a good movie.

Near the end though. Had me laughing my ass off.

Brad pitt was high on some cigarette with acid I think they said.

When the hippies broke in to kill him. He was explaining he knew them. Your name is ...... & was thinking of the name. Talking to the guy. The guy said he was the devil doing the devils work!

He said nah. It was dumber than that (still trying to think of his name)

I dont know why it was so funny to me, but I am still laughing about it. LOL

The ending was really hilarious and well done. Tarrantino's endings are often where his movies really fall down because they seem so completely needless. But it really worked with this film.

Excellent movie but the first 2 hours could have been cut in half almost.

I really enjoyed the carefully detailed reenactment of the period, probably because I lived through it as an adolescent and it brought back a lot of memories. I had a pretty good idea where it would end, if not exactly how, which was

"What would have happened if the Manson family had picked the wrong house?"

That payoff was fun. Good but not great Tarantino, imo.

Just watched "Once upon a time in Hollywood" for the first time.

I wouldn't put it at the top of Tarantino's list, but was an ok movie, mostly because of the actors.
That was what kept me in it.

7 out of 10
But wasn't one of his best efforts. maybe 6.5

Do I just need to watch it again???
That's what I have to do with most of his movies anyway.

I have been seeing people saying they don't understand why Pitt won an oscar for it, but to me, he was the best part in the movie. Most of his scenes were pretty good, the ranch, the Bruce Lee, the ending were all pretty good.

Dicaprio's insecurity was the best part of the flick.

The ending was dumb.

His movies are always about the acting and dialogue. Even the dumb situations can be overlooked.

A very strong director to make sure his actors are perfect.

I always find with Tarantino movies. They are rewatchable.

I see some movies where I liked them & thought they were good, but dont really care to watch them again.

Seems like all his movies I end up watching a bunch. I have cable with a billion channels & yes. there are times when nothing is really on still.
If this movie is on one of the channels I will usually throw it to that channel when nothing stands out to watch.

I didnt think I would like this movie, but I did. They played off each other well. Brad Pitt's character was my favorite though.

The Bruce Lee fight was priceless.

If you watch this part of the scene in slow motion you can tell it is not even the actors. 2 stuntmen.

I watched this yesterday and most say it was enjoyable.

Bruce Lee saying nobody beat Bruce's ass.
Then Brad Pitt saying the debt in the car disagrees.

Agreed. There are always a few scenes that are terrific even when it doesn't hold together as a whole.
