I want this to happen so bad at Michigan but I know it's out of culture for our University and probably won't happen any time soon. Any time they host some non football event at Michigan Stadium and sell alcohol, like those soccer matches, it's so much more amazing. No one's getting wasted on $10-$12 beers that it takes you 15 minutes to go get and come back to your seat.

I don't support it but now the cat is out of the bag. We have had some bad experiences over the past few years with fans in various stadiums being a helluva lot worse than they used to be back in the 90's and earlier. And every time it's because they have been drinking. Mixing even a modest, over priced amount of booze with the rude attitude too many people have today when they are in public isn't going to make the game experience better; it is going to add to a problem that is already starting to get worse. We don't need every stadium feeling like it's full of a bunch of degenerate Colorado fans. Leave the booze at the tail gate party.......or anywhere else outside the stadium.

It’s quite convenient if you are trying to keep up your buzz, but waiting in long lines and paying $20 for 2 Light brews sure does suck.

At A&M beer and alcohol is only served in certain levels of the stadium and the rules are you can't take your drink back to your seat with you. We have security and state troopers montor the areas for any problems.

This is a good attempt to mitigate any potential problems. Good on aTm for having this. What a lot of people are not thinking about (or care about) is everything happens incrementally. Today we might see some solid attempts to control over drinking in a college football stadium. But eventually someone will allow beer vendors in the stands and then.......... It's probably unavoidable but at some point college fans will be "enjoying" all the same services that professional sports have.

Had to wait til after they fired Mike otherwise they would've had to have a special medical tent on the sideline just for alcohol poison victims.

Been to Norman several times. It's a great venue & this will only make it better. The fans that want to drink do so before the game, on school property. Why not let the schools make some more $$? Besides, if you can buy it in the stadium during the 3 1/2 hour game, you probably won't slam so much pre-game. I wish all CFB stadiums would do this.

Fuck it. I want ammo sales at the stadium too. Maybe even a Bunny Ranch. No sense in being half-assed with this stuff. Let's get our freak on.

Idk... maybe it was just my degenerate friends and i but there was no pacing yourself in college. I usually don’t drink at sporting events though. Piss breaks ruin it imo

UW does the whole sell it in stadium only for specific (high dollar) sections thing and it's just dumb. It doesn't solve the problem at our facility.

For years it wasn't sold or controlled at all. What happened? Either people got WAY over drunk in tailgating to attempt to ride that buzz through until half time, and/or they smuggled in hard booze and mixed it in large soda drinks. I can't tell you how many times people were taken out or puked down stairs, but it was super common. And you had half full stadiums going into the 3rd quarter as so many headed back out to their tailgates at half time and didn't make it back in until half way into the 3rd, if they made it back at all.

So they added a beer garden outside of the stadium on a practice field visible from the stands. That fixed things right? Wrong. Most didn't change what they did because that one small place to get overpriced beer and stand in long lines STILL kept the stadium half full in the 3rd. The lines were visible from the stand well into the second half.

After the stadium remodel they added limited sales to key money areas like the 50y, club level, and an outdoor cafe deck. While general fans can go to a couple of those areas, again the lines are way too long to really attract enough to be a solution. Still half full stands going into the second half.

Before last season they decided the fix was to stop sales of beer at the end of the half to encourage people to be back in their seats. Yep, you guessed it, it drove them back out to their tailgates and that made it worse again as the parking lots are a long way from the stadium.

Just sell the damned beer in all/most of your food stands and be done with it. ffs it's not that hard. AND it will help reduce over intoxication as fewer will feel the need to get AS wasted before games knowing they have no more access to alcohol during the game. If the vendors are doing their jobs they can easily identify those that really shouldn't have more.

FWIW, there are quite a few games I went to that I have no memory at all of going into the stadium or anything that happened in the first half. I was way too lazy though to go out at half and drink more. I was NEVER not in my seat for the second half kick off. I wouldn't have came in that drunk if I had other options.
