OkSU and OU could do a Florida vs Florida State and go to separate conferences but have to play each other in your OOC. Going into the PAC or B1G may pose a problem with scheduling since you will have 3 OOC games and most teams are not going to want to have two good/great teams out of the three.

Come on, OU played Texas many years before the Big 12 was formed, then had to play NU in conference. Most years OU would try to get a least one SEC, ACC or PAC team to play also. (This was back when I was in school in the 70's) Not to mention we played up and comers like Miami and FSU and WVU back then too. Wasn't like OU was afraid to schedule good teams...

I'm talking about OOC alone. 2 out of three 3 games against premiere teams is very rare. When you have four OOC games, it is easier because you get two patsies to tune up on.

Two out of three or two out of four, what difference does it make if you lose both anyway...but if you win both...
Tell me how many schools schedule 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 against good power competition on a regular basis.

I'd be worried it would go the way of Texas ATM but tbh there isn't that level of hostility there. There is little love but it's not like OSU has the power or outright hate to tell ou to f off just to spite them.

Problem is gonna be on ou's end though. In a 9 game conference schedule you only want one big opponent. Our fans would be cool keeping the rivalry alive but considering the past vs the last 15 years or so I'm guessing the other side wouldn't be as keen on the idea.

USC? ...really who schedules 3 out of 4 though but OU and all P5 schools should at least do 2. These FCS games suck, and so do some the weak FBS schools. Right now OU's schedule is shit because of the recent conference shake up.

Which is probably a bonus for Oklahoma because you win out and you are in.

Nobody is going to leave the Big 12 anytime soon. Each school signed a contract they wouldn't leave or pay a very hefty fine.

AAU is what the Big 10 wants.
Kansas has that coveted AAU membership.

The Big 10 is not going to budge on that requirement for anyone....Oklahoma is deluding themselves.

You used the word requirement... AAU is a preference for B1G membership, but NOT a requirement.

The B1G would take a big brand name school even if it was not AAU. For example, look at Notre Dame... ND is NOT AAU, it is a small catholic school with only approx. 8500 undergrad student enrollment and approx. 3500 graduate student enrollment, yet the Irish are a huge brand name, and any Power 5 conference would be giddy if ND would join their ranks, including the B1G.

Some folks on this thread also state that the PAC would never take any religious schools.... really? Come on folks.... the PAC wouldn't turn down Notre Dame if for the hypothetical reason the Irish desired full membership for all sports in the PAC.

The question is... is Oklahoma a big enough brand name for the B1G to overlook their preference for AAU members? I dunno... perhaps. What about two other non-AAU schools such as Virginia Tech and Georgia... if for the hypothetical reason those two schools desired B1G membership... would they be turned down? I dunno... perhaps... I imagine the B1G would prefer AAU members Virginia and Georgia Tech, but would the B1G really slam the door on Virginia Tech and Georgia?

Money rules all. Big brand names (especially if located in high population states) and the $$$ they bring to the table would probably trump the AAU preference. A potential problem is that Oklahoma is not a high population state (it ranks 28th with a population of approx 3.9 million). Would the combo of not being AAU plus not being a high population state be a deal breaker for the Sooners? I dunno... their brand name is pretty darn big--- the Sooners are definitely in the list of the 10 or 12 college football Blue Bloods, which makes them pretty darn desirable.

A Hypothetical Dozen College Football Blue Bloods List:
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Nebraska
Notre Dame
Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama

Note: half the above list is NOT AAU (Oklahoma, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama)

One last thing......the same argument also pertains to the B1G preference for a contiguous state... it's a preference, but not a requirement.

Actually population isn't the means of determining viability. It's number of households.

A family of 8 in a house has the same or similar cable/satellite bill as one person living in an apartment.

Like Nebraska, Oklahoma's national brand outweighs it's limited households. Come renegotiation time BTN can ask for more from the cable/satellite providers.

Well, you listed Alabama, but it's the last one you listed. So you are off my Christmas Card list no matter what this year.

Hehe.... I made the list in my mind by visualizing the US map.... I started on the west coast and decided to leave off UCLA & Oregon (sorry Bruins & Ducks fans... hugs & kisses to ya!)... then I moved towards Big XII territory, then up to B1G territory, and then finally down the east coast to Florida (sorry ACC fans, no Blue Blood members except for Notre Dame), then I moved westward through SEC territory.... so Alabama was last in my visualization route, but certainly not least! (sorry LSU & Arkansas & Texas A&M fans... but you didn't quite make the final dozen, although I still love ya!)

maybe before 2010....

But, the Nebraska fallout caused months of constant re-examinations and clarifications regarding the AAU thing.
The Big 10 basically said Nebraska would not have gotten an invite had the AAU been revoked prior.

Angry (petty??) Wisconsin and Michigan voted Nebraska out of the AAU because they were not keen on the AAU status even being challenged. They were a bit pissed for being mislead about the AAU status in the beginning.
Northwestern basically had to kiss ass and try and get Nebraska/Michigan/Wisconsin to be nice to each other.

So, it would look really bad for them to chase a non-AAU school after making such a big deal and infighting.

That "preference" is more or less an unwritten de facto mandate now.

LOL @ Texas fans making things up as they go along. It's a preference and not a requirement. Split hairs all you want, insinuate all you want. Delaney said it's not an issue. I'll go with what's being done. Not with something some donghorn is posting on a message board.

How many conferences does that up to?
Now once you have added those up, how many spots in the College football play off?
If you want to take it one step further 4x2=8, so what you have is an 8 team play off, the Conference championship games are the Division round.
