“It is a big disappointment that Ottawa does not want to release Mika to join the team for the World Juniors,” said Rönnberg. “I have asked our federation to intervene and I am confident they will. Having said that, I must focus on the players I have and I can’t let that [Ottawa not releasing Zibanejad] steal energy from my work.”

Forwards and defense look very good, Subban the early favourite between the pipes?

TSNBobMcKenzie: Notables not invited on D: Cody Ceci, Stuart Percy, Slater Koekkoek, Ryan Pulock, Duncan Siemens. In net, Zach Fucale.

Not sure why Adam Pelech made the selection camp, the times I've seem him play, he doesn't strike me as anything special.

Pelech = slow, but hits hard. maybe too vulnerable on big ice
interesting to see Ceci and Koekkoek fall a bit. They were spoken of in pretty elite terms at one point.
(and great to see Corrado in their place)

From a selfish standpoint, part of me wouldn't be too disappointed if Shinkaruk doesn't make the team (Tigers really miss him when he is out of the lineup). He plays bigger than his 5'11" stature.

Pelech is going to be one heck of a player. Erie has McDavid, Dansk, Pelech & a bunch of 16 year olds. I don't expect him to make the team though.

Very surprised that Fucale wasn't invited.

The word from Binghamton was that Mika was asked if he wanted to go to the WJC and he chose to stay with his teammates in Bingo.

It'll be interesting to see where this goes.

I'm surprised Pouliot was invited. He got beat on a regular basis against the Russians in the Subway series. He looked lost out their.

A bit surprised that Ceci didn't get at least an invite. 30 points in 30 games.

He's 6'3, 215 lbs.

Canada's depth on the blueline had better be outstanding come tournament time to leave a guy like that off of the team.

Koekkoek is no slouch either.

Koekkoek didn't leave a great last impression (burned badly by a Russian forward in the Subway Series game). You wonder if that played a part in him being left off the squad.

I think Oilers fans should be a little concerned that RNH has these recurrent shoulder issues. Of course, the fact that Oilers team doctors are involved should be a warning sign.

Not exactly a fair picture, I realize, but does anybody else think the Nuge should hit the weight room?

I hope Dougie Hamilton makes the team, plays like a beast on defense, and says "Henceforth, my name is Doug Hamilton"

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it was the .93 PPG average and his success on the power play that earned him that invite. I agree Pouliot has much to learn about his defensive game, but the kid is excellent at seeing the ice with the puck on his stick.

And RNH has no business being in this tournament. He started half the season in the NHL last year.

I'm looking forward to the USA roster announcement tomorrow, two Flames prospects (Johnny Hockey Gaudreau and Patrick Seiloff) have a good chance of being named to the roster camp.

It really sucks for TSN (not to mention all hockey fans in North America), that in a lockout season where interest in this tournament will be higher than ever, just happens to be the 1st time in at least 5 years that the tournament is being played overseas. The games are going to be played super early/late. They will be replayed in prime time but it's not the same as watching it live. :(
