I still think there had to be some truth to the buyout, Sam Gagner's making a lot the next two seasons - I don't think a young team like Tampa would want that - if they buy him out they would have upwards of $8.5 million in cap space, without the buyout it would be about $4-4.5

Yes, but it would be a normal buyout, as BBB pointed out in the other thread, Tampa has already used their two compliance buyouts (Lecavalier and Malone).

i know. that's why i think it's interesting. if they were planning to buyout purcell anyways, why not flip him for someone who will cost less to buyout

EDM's trade of Sam Gagner to TB for Ted Purcell doesn't necessarily mean Gagner will stay in TB. Buyout a possibility but so is a trade.
