I think if this team gets good coaching and their D plays to their potential 29 teams should be very worried.

Looks like junk, they should trade some of their young talent up front to the Devils for help back there. Zidlicky could buy them a year to help their younger guys develop. They could take Andy Greene in that package as well.

I like Jeff Petry. The rest of that defense is just junk or unknown (Schultz). Ryan Whitney is soft as Charmin Ultra.

I think that trade works for both, now that they landed the Nail. However, I think Omark and a pick would probably be their counter-offer.

Ryan Whitney - Can move the puck but his health is a huge issue. Looks pretty bad in his own end regularly. Has a place as a playoff team's 4/5 when healthy.

Justin Schultz - Unknown. I think best case scenario is that he plays as well as Gardiner did for the Leafs last year. Looks like a good one down the road.

Nick Schultz - Solid stay at home guy who is probably on the downside of his career. Good team guy who would be welcome on the second or third pairing of most teams.

Ladislav Smid - One of the better defensive defensemen out there, IMO. Doesn't bring much offense but would be a good guy to pair with a risk taking offensive guy.

Andy Sutton - Done. Too slow. 7th D-man at this stage of his career.

Jeff Petry - Has the makings of good 3rd or 4th defenseman on a good team. Not great at anything but solid overall.

Theo Peckham - Lots of heart. Gets beat a little too much to be out there more than 17 or so minutes a night. A decent bottom pairing D.

Thoughts? - The Coilers lack top flight guys on the blue line. They have 6 NHL defensemen but they have no true top pairing guys. They need guys who can get the puck to their talent up front. I don't see that here.

I think almost everyone would agree with you. I only have two questions as to whether or not they will be scary.

1.How good are the D in the system? Schultz, Klefbom, Marincin, Musil need to make a big impact in a couple of years max.

2.We don't know where the cap is going to be at this point. The Oilers need a high figure if they're going to keep their big 4 forwards long term.
