Good move. A part of me was hoping for Puig but this is probably the safer bet.

I like it too, basically you get a corner OF and corner infield guy with a decent bat.
I will say I did really like Blackburn as a prospect for us moving forward.

Agree totally but would have been fun to see him explode/implode on the team. But a big gamble like u said.

Dipoto says Valencia will platoon mainly ar 1B meaning Lee most likely gone...again per Dipoto.

Fun to watch the fat man but numbers really dropped in second half.

I think we all knew Vogelbach would likely be the guy going into the season getting majority of the AB'same against RH handed pitching. A capable platoon guy is very important to take some pressure off a rookie. I think Valencia is a great fit for the Mariners.

Also just read Gamel will be given an every day role to start the season. I liked what he did the last few games of the year at the plate. Very solid in the field.

Also saying Guti will be gone as well. Loved the heart but his legs were dead in the field. Time to move on.

This isnt off season news but would love to see Ms go after Sale. I would deal Walker and Paxton in a heartbeat for him. We need an ace to contend. Not going to happen but Dipoto needs to go big.

Valencia has a 126 OPS+ over the last two seasons. Career .873 OPS against lefties (.682 vs RHP). He was competent against righties this year though (.275/.330/.412) and actually had a better OPS against righties in 2015 (.881; .834 vs LHP).

Blackburn doesn't have the highest ceiling, but he could end up being a strike throwing #4/5 type. The A's rotation leaves a lot to be desired even if Gray does rebound.

Seems like a good deal for both sides.

When I saw this I was really surprised. More often than not when I see a trade that Dipoto pulls off my first impression is he just sold his players at a discount.

I really like Jean Segura but now we have an even thinner starting rotation. The rotation is a huge concern for me right now.

I'm fine with it. Segura had a good year last year, and the Mariners haven't had a good offensive player at shortstop for a long time. The only real drawback is that he's only done it for one season, so it remains to be seen if it was an anomaly or if he will continue to get better. Hopefully the latter obviously. Don't know anything about the other 2 pieces the Mariners got. I think Marte will be a soild high OBP, low SLG shortstop, but he was not ready yet. And Walker has the talent but is such a freaking headcase, I'm glad the M's got rid of him. I like the trade right now. We'll see how it works out.
