As of now, I believe the Seahawks still possess their first five picks in the 2026 draft. Hopefully we won't trade it away. With Geno now gone, DK one foot out the door, and long-time franchise icon Tyler Lockett released, this team, as currently assembled, doesn't look like the 8-10 win team of recent years. It resembles more of a 4-6 win team.

How serious they are about competing will during the 2025 season will depend on what they do at quarterback. But, I think that question has already been answered. No one likes tank mode. NFL coaches obviously refuse to talk about it. Some fans refuse to believe in it. Personally, I think it is our best play for 2025. The remaining options loook bleak. I guess Darnold could sign a longterm deal with Minnesota and then we could get JJ for a 2nd round or something like that, but that's a pipedream, a pipedream that 4 or 5 other teams would be chasing as well.

Yep, that's what I was thinking all along but forgot to mention it. But, as a friend of mine said, let's hope he doesn't pull a shitty like his uncle did and demand the bright lights of a city where he gets more of a national spotlight. And, both NY teams desperately need a QB and probably still will going into 2026.

I would not be surprised if Seattle makes a push for Darnold or definitely consider it. Schneider attended his pro day, Kubiak has worked with him... now the price has gotta be right. Paying $45M to a QB (Darnold or Geno - which is reportedly what he wants) doesn't seem worth it to me... WAY too much uncertainty going into 2025 with both.

That said, given this trade I honestly think they are very much eyeing someone in the draft. I can sit here all day and say "This QB class sucks and wait till 2026" and blah blah blah... but I'm not an NFL coach/scout. I'm willing to put it on the line, I think Seattle drafts a QB in the 1st or 2nd with the intent to have him as the starter. Throw him in against Howell (who is young enough to be drafted again lol) and see who wins the job. Spend the money elsewhere.

Kubiak's style is going to be building the trenches and focusing on the run game with tight ends, etc. And that of course heavily favors what Mac is trying to do (control the ball, get the run game going, and take on the game of attrition). Paying huge money for Geno or Darnold just doesn't seem to fit the mold of what he wants to do.

This is also VERY much reminiscent of Pete Carroll. Hasselbeck was an older serviceable starter but we weren't going anywhere with him. He went and got the run game going, drafted a new QB a couple years later (2012 was Wilson, so 2 years later, this will be 1 year later, but similar)... and there ya go.

that means taking a QB at 18 that is rated in the 3rd-5th round. people are talking about dart going top 5, so who will be left at 18?
i like will howard, but not at 18, more like 3rd round at the earliest.
meanwhile, next year could have 4 or 5 legit first round QBs, even without manning.

No idea who they could be eyeing MrS... it could be that they are looking for someone in the 3rd (just like Wilson) and seeing how it pans out, and if it doesn't and you tank, at that point you'll have a pretty strong supporting cast (focusing on DL/OL) to make your play in 2026.

I'm just saying, I wouldn't be surprised if they're thinking of someone in the 1st/2nd. I wouldn't be thrilled with it because as I said I don't think this QB class is great, but I've also said more than once on this forum "If you think he's your guy, pull the trigger" and "I'm just a guy that watches and studies a lot of football, I have zero clue how to properly evaluate or coach a player."

Using the word, "TANK" is the worst verbiage to sum up a team I'm a fan of... I just can't do it...

I can't see them tanking. They're building a defense, which in itself should win enough games to keep us from the #1 pick.

Yep, tough defense while running ball, controlling the clock will keep us lower scoring games giving us a chance to win games like you said...

That requires investing heavily in OL, whether or not they will actually do that remains to be seen

WE have that extra 3rd now which is where I ideally would like to see them thinking of picking a maybe QB, if that. But reaching any higher than that would be foolish, imo. Even the kids going high in the first don't impress me in the least. Obviously, Pete and the Raiders brass having the 6th overall see this as fools gold and are going after Geno just to stabilize the position. If they want to overpay to extend him, more power to them and maybe Chip Kelly can somehow scheme up something in the red zone to hide Geno's biggest flaw. Having Bowers is huge for them and now they can concentrate on their other many needs. Back to us, a rebuild was needed to get off this old train we've been on. Hope we can figure it out and be a real contender in 2-3 years.

Oh yeah, I'm leaning toward the idea that they're tanking. I mean Macdonald is still super young so I'm sure he's ok with losing the next 2 years and getting fired because he knows he'll just easily get another HC gig later down the line. And JS is probably totally insulated from getting fired as well even if the team sucks by his hand for the next couple years. Yeah, I'm sure that's what is going on.

Should probably wait til free agency comes along to see what the strategy for this year is. My guess is bolstering the Oline and getting an elite pass rusher to really get the defense in line with what Mike wants, getting an affordable (lol not 45M) bridge QB, and targeting a young guy to be the QBotF in this draft or next.

I don't think tanking has any place in the mind of our head coach. Building a team to your specs takes a few years. The moves we saw last year and those we're currently seeing are just the chess game along the way.

Tanking is NEVER the goal of a franchise or team... it just kind of 'finds a way' to naturally happen. And that results in multiple firings, trades, loss of fanbase/revenue, etc. The owners don't want it, never ask for it, etc.

NFL is still a business. And to say, "We are going to tank this year and just do a shit overall job and mail in everything to put everything on putting all our chips on black next year (hell that's better odds than a QB)" is absolutely retarded.

I still can't believe people think NFL franchises 'TANK' for a QB at #1. That's the most stupid thing and concept I've ever heard of. Maybe I've just spent too many years in business and finance to know better..

Some folks are saying, "Tank this year and go for Manning at #1 overall!" WTF? Really? THAT'S your solution? Fuckin' insane. Well, that's why people mentioning that are not earning the big bucks running a team or organization... lol, radical comments like that.

If this regime thought the way you think they are thinking they wouldn't have just shipped off an ok QB and they wouldn't have released/traded guys they just picked up, as they did last year. They're building a team the right way, which is 100% not by intentionally creating a bad team just to get a QB.

Trying to get Maxx Crosby tells you they're trying to be mediocre? Please.

We are fans, its OK to recognize that your team needs to rebuild. And this team does need to rebuild, it doesn't need Sam darnold or geno smith at qb its needs Sam Howell so we can get a manning.
