@Lake Shore Drive isn't McCann's contract up this year? Collins will have an opportunity next year.

Unfortunately it is. Yes, Collins will have a shot at the backup spot if he's still on the club, but so will Seby Zavala, who is actually considered the best defensive C in the organization, altho his bat ain't all that. Plus, don't overlook Yermin Mercedes as a backup candidate, even tho he too could be used as trade bait. The trouble there is he probably wouldn't carry the same trade value as Collins, a former 1st rd pick.

I don't really think anyone seriously considers Zavala or Mercedes MLB catchers. I may be wrong, but I haven't seen the evidence.

Mercedes looked fine to me behind the plate in that ST game I attended in AZ before the covid shutdown. He may not be as adapt in his catching duties as Collins, but let's be honest here, that's still not saying much. But actually I'm fine if we keep Collins, especially in lieu of the likelihood that McCann walks after the season. I'm simply saying that if the right trade came along and he was part of the package, I wouldn't lose a moment of sleep over it.

I have a feeling that Collins will be one of those AAAA players. But, as my brother who played in the minors used to tell me - any mediocre lefty hitter or pitcher has a ticket to the major leagues.

Mercedes might be well suited for the Encarnacion role DH- 1st base - emergency catcher. He will save the Sox a big salary some day.

I don't know if anyone considers Collins an MLB catcher.

He's not very good defensively. He was supposed to hit and be sort of a Grandal comparison offensively. Doesn't hit for average, takes a lot, walks a lot, and has power. So far, he just takes a lot, K's a lot, walks here and there. He's not really young anymore either.

I don't know how much Collins is in our future plans. He wouldn't be apart of mine. I mean, you give him a shot in 2021 spring training... but... eh...

Left-handed or (especially switch hitting catcher) is a goldmine. I was a catcher, played college ball. In high school, I went to watch a Cape Cod League game over the summer on a trip with my travel team. Was wearing a White Sox hat... guess who I was sitting next to? Jon Garland's mother. She asked if I was a fan. She told me who she was and that Jon's little brother was playing in the game. Which is why she was there.

She was suuuper knowledgeable. Talked a lot of baseball and the conversation got around to me. I told her I was a catcher. She immediately responds "2nd quickest ticket to the big leagues after left handed pitcher"... and she goes... "Want a loophole to make it the top ticket, though?". I say, of course. She bluntly replies "learn how to switch hit. Like... now. Go to a cage and start taking swings lefty."

Lol. I actually tried, but holy hell. I could not swing left handed to save my life. It was bad.

So the Sox have a 99% chance of making the playoffs according to 538 at the 2/3's juncture in the "season."

Based on records at this time the top tier in baseball belongs to the Dodgers and the Bay Rays and the Sox are in the next tier with the Twins, Indians, A's, Cubs and Padres. We are looking at a really good possibility of being in the American League Championship series.

What I'm saying here - is it will be incumbent upon one of us to lay in a supply of Ketamine to keep @Jiddy under control - in case he gets to full White Sox delirium.

These next 5 games are crucial for us to either pad our lead or at least keep pace with the Indians and Twins. We have two against the Pirates and three vs the Tigers, and the latter in particular has been en fuego of late. So these will not be gimme games by any stretch. Then we have that final 14 game stretch where we face the Twins, Reds, Indians, and Cubs. That's a tough, but exciting way to close out the season.

I'm voting for a sweep of the Twins

Will the White Sox only play 59 games? Is the game with the Yankees going to be made up?

We never had a game with the Yankees in the 60 game schedule. We only play the AL Central and NL Central.

You're correct - the Yankees were replaced by the Cards in the Field of Dreams. Thanks,

If the Sox get by the 1st round of the playoffs - it will be off to SoCal for the bubble playoffs (Dodger Stadium and Petco Field).

I know there's no fans...but having 3 games at Comiskey rather than on the road would be nice.

Unless you look at the home vs away record of these White Sox. ;)
