Palmer will have a comeback, comeback, comeback... wait for it... comeback season.

One more comeback season and he'll get a free waffle iron.

Well, I suppose it would be rather reactionary of me to base Palmer's prospects on a few series in a meaningless preseason game. Shame on me. Probably would have just been easier to look at his numbers from the last five years and make some predictions based on that.

As for Moore..... That had much more to do with making fun of how much these guys are pumped up during 'draft season' vs. what actually happens when they put on the pads. He was a fine college quarterback, but the scouts were weary of his potential for a reason.

1. And you'd still be wrong. In either case, still pretty ironic considering you began this thread.

2. The point isn't what anyone said about Moore in the past or now, whether it be fans or scouts. The irony of creating a thread about it though after one preseason game is still appalling.

Sorry to be appalling. In the future, I'll be sure to take myself much more seriously on public message boards.

I suppose you'll provide some data showing that Palmer has actually been improving over the past 6 years.

Take yourself however you wish. Simply pointed out the irony.

I would if I had ever made that argument. One does not have to be "improving" or not "lighting it up in a preseason game" to not be "finished".

If Palmer's numbers don't 'improve' it's reasonable to suggest he won't continue to be a starting quarterback - At least not for the Raiders.

I think it's funny that you say this now when you were very comfortable going on record after one Cam Newton preseason game.... Of course, you were wrong so you might want to forget it ever happened.

His numbers are actually just fine for a starting QB. Right in the middle of the pack.

Even before Cam took a snap in preseason, I was on record saying I thought he could be as good as Vick (and possibly mentioned he might be better). Also, as a matter of fact, I broke down what I saw in his first preseason game - my recollection was it was Game 1 against Green Bay and not preseason - good and bad. But that's besides the point since I can guarantee what I've never done is jumped the gun based on any single game - preseason or regular season.

Get your facts straight.

Middle of the pack won't keep him as the starter in Oakland - Unless middle of the pack leads them to the playoffs which is unlikely given that defense. It's not a stretch to believe that the new coaching staff will want to go in a new direction if the team isn't in the postseason.

And where are they going to find a better than middle of the pack QB to replace him? Leinart? Pryor?

They don't grow on trees.

This is what you said after his first preseason game.....

I will go on record now:

Cam Newton's peak is a Mike Vick, which is at best a #10 QB in the league. At his peak, he'll be a good to very good (not great) regular season QB - i.e. his team will win many games against crappy defenses. In the playoffs, he may get to the 2nd round, but once he starts seeing real defenses, his game won't amount to much (much like Vick) and he'll become a liability.

That said, in all likelihood, he'll be a bust. Stick around for 2-3 years and then have a tough time trying to land somewhere.

Next season's draft, I won't be surprised if the Panthers are in a predicament trying to decide whether they draft Luck or trade back.

Obviously it's impossible to judge his peak because he's several years away..... But your best 'likelihood' estimate was clearly wrong - And you were able to render such insight after one preseason game..... Not much different than what I did with Kellen Moore -- Which, btw, was appaling.

The draft..... Not saying they'll be successful in finding one, but they'll probably convince themselves that they should. Whether it's right or wrong, teams replace quarterbacks fairly quickly these days and I don't see Palmer lasting in Oakland with mediocre numbers.

On the other hand, he could have put up crappy numbers for the next decade in Cincy, and Mike would have never replaced him.

My recollection is pretty good.

That may have been posted after the first preseason game, but that's the stance I held long before he took a snap in the NFL. Nonetheless, it wasn't an opinion based on a single game, rather the collection of similar talents that had preceded him.

With Kellen Moore, you were quick to support your earlier claims (with which I agreed) based on 1 preseason game.

That's the difference.

Lastly, the irony was appalling, not the assessment.

He's 33 years old. They'd be dumb not to start looking for a replacement at least in the later rounds for now.

Oh, and btw, I still stand by my assessment that Cam will never get passed the top 10. Maybe top 8 when guys begin to retire, but he'll never be in the upper tier. I haven't been proven wrong yet.

Last year it was 'he'll bust and be looking for a job in 2 or 3 years,' and now this year it's 'he won't be in the top 10.'

A few years from now, you'll 'stand by your 'assessment' that he won't be an HOF or the best in the game.

Why not just admit you were wrong about Cam. You wouldn't be the only one.
