Yes. Melo is a much better offensive player than Bosh.

I honestly think that is the last option though

Cant sign Melo. They don't have his bird rights so they wouldn't be able to go over. Only way LBJ and Melo play together on miami is if Bosh and Wade leave. I don't see wade leaving.

I agree I just want FA to start moving along. Don't know why these star players need all this time.. In Melo Case he has had what 2 months to think about this. LBJ I understand a little because he just started about leaving. Just pick a team and let others move on.

My Bulls are waiting for something. They really must think they have a good shot at Melo because they aren't making any moves. Wish Melo would make a Final 2 before tonight. He should at least know if its NY and another team. PICK A TEAM ALREADY. sorry just getting frustrated.

Pretty sure he knows more than you and I. He's been doing this for nearly 30 years now.

This I find pretty hilarious. Beat writers are never homers & never wrong? They always get their facts right before commenting, tweeting, or publishing a story? Looking at the numbers and coming up with a general conclusion is not rocket science. Other then having close "sources" tied to team, which give him information after the fact in most cases, he will not know much more than fans who pays attention.

Here is the difference in net wages for Lebron depending on where he signs: Lebron Net Wages

Heat(FLA): $73,318,945 (5 years) $56,750,199 (4 years)
Heat(Ohio): $69,837,075 (5 years) $54,053,975 (4 years)
Mavs: $54,450,706 (4 years)
Rockets: $54,450,706 (4 years)
Bulls: $53,080,856 (4 years)
Suns: $53,028,516 (4 years)
Cavs: $51,877,040 (4 years)
Knicks: $49,034,246 (4 years)
Lakers: $48,591,966 (4 years)

That is a lot of money to leave on the table for Lebron. That is why I don't see him leaving.

Same can be said for Melo. Only Difference Melo needs a ring and with no ring people will remember him as a good player during his time but not a winner. If Im Melo I go to a team that has a shot at winning. Money will be there. Yes not as much but I bet he will be fine either way.

Houston or Dallas would be the best fit for Melo.

That 5th year makes a difference, that's about $5 mil more pre-taxes that he could make for that season than if he signed another deal after 4 years. $5 mil is a lot to give up. That's not including that he might get a serious injury & decline substantially. So the difference on the 5th year could be $10-15 mil if he declines or is injured. It's a lot of guaranteed money to give up.

God I love my Spurs.

They even do free agency quietly and professionally.

Everyone else is prostituting themselves and making this a freaking circus.
The SPURS got both Diaw and Mills for slightly below market value and zero fanfare.

Now, they still have the full MLE to add depth to a stacked and loaded roster.
They are focusing on evaluating summer league talent rather than wondering who the hell is going to be on the darn roster.

...............

And for what its worth, there is a team in the state capitol of Georgia that free agents should be paying attention to as well. "Spurs-east" might surprise a few beat reporters in the next few days.

Dallas is pursuing Lance Stephenson :L

Gotta like the defense he would bring.

Well winning a championship makes everything easier, but that is just the kind of team they are.

I like ATLANTA at 85-1. I think I am going to take a $25 dollar flyer.
That is the best futures odds on the board.

Although at 40-1 to win the east is probably even smarter.

I think they will be the ultimate winner this free agency and have a top 2 team in the east.

It's not that much to give up depending on how old the player is. A guy like Lebron can make up the money on the first year of his next contract. But a player like Wade wouldn't command that money again on a new contract.

I bet James signs a 2-year deal wherever he goes....It gives him an out in 2 years if the team he is on isn't playing up to par.

He can't make that money up in year one. It's impossible. The most any player can get is 105% of last years salary in the first year of a new deal. A player who resigns with their Bird rights team for the 5th year gets a larger % increase year after year & a 15 or 20 % increase(I don't feel like looking up the actual number) for that final year. That is only available to Bird rights teams who use the 5th year.

So yes, a player can just sign a new contract, but the difference would be 15-20% less than if it was the 5th year you had signed with your Bird rights team.
