The total value of a 5 year max contract versus a 4 year plus the first year of a new contract is:

Bird rights: $127190000
Other team: $120,813,910

That's a little over $6 mil pre-tax that you can't make back & is only available when you resign with your Bird rights team for the full 5 year max. Don't forget that the net wages difference is even greater for Lebron compared to Melo or any other place that he signs because of the taxes.

God I love my Spurs.

They even do free agency quietly and professionally.

Everyone else is prostituting themselves and making this a freaking circus.
The SPURS got both Diaw and Mills for slightly below market value and zero fanfare.

Now, they still have the full MLE to add depth to a stacked and loaded roster.
They are focusing on evaluating summer league talent rather than wondering who the hell is going to be on the darn roster.

...............

And for what its worth, there is a team in the state capitol of Georgia that free agents should be paying attention to as well. "Spurs-east" might surprise a few beat reporters in the next few days.

ESPN has turned into a drama whore. I saw Diaw re-signed and thought "these fuckers just signed back the rest of their team". It will be interesting to see what the Spurs come out like next year now that the added motivation from 2013 is gone as the Spurs got their revenge. But they're the champs, they're now the team that everyone in the league is trying to beat.

I like ATLANTA at 85-1. I think I am going to take a $25 dollar flyer.
That is the best futures odds on the board.

Although at 40-1 to win the east is probably even smarter.

I think they will be the ultimate winner this free agency and have a top 2 team in the east.

It's Atlanta, just like the 1st round, they'll find a way to mess it up.

I feel like if one of these big three (Bosh, Bron, and Melo) sign, then it will get the ball rolling and this should go quicker.

If you follow college football recruiting (which I'm assuming you don't), then NBA free agency would look like a cake walk.

I think people bagged on Dwight because it was Dwight.....plus all the bullshit he put the Magic through and the never-ending circus that that shit show was. I'm not pleased with Lebron for taking this long (most of it is impatience and my team in a flux right now), but collectively in his two free agents stints, he didn't pull half of the shenanigans that Dwight did. That's one playerI hope never wins a ring.

Yeah, you know what Dwight makes me think of?

Those snotty ass 18 year olds with those hats in front of them representing what college they might play for and then they pick up one hat, act like they are going to put it on and then toss it down and grab another one.

Such arrogant little fucks who need to go out there and really suck and learn some humility.

Dwight spent nearly 2 years being an ass nonstop with his decisionmaking.

Lebron had his few weeks in 2010...and maybe his few weeks in 2014...

But, it was nothing as drawn out like the asinine antics of Dwightmare.

Lebron is 1/100th the douchebag that is Dwight Howard.

Too many people are saying that he's more than likely going back to Cleveland. It also doesn't help his agent ultimate goal is get him back to Cleveland also.

There's no non-basketball sign that favors the Heat. One thing the Heat always felt they couldn't help is what his inner circle will tell him to do.
