Well the key is next year he will resign. They have draft picks, they get rid of Haywood (10.5 mil), and Varajeo's contract is about 10 mil too. So many options to open up cap space and it shouldn't be too difficult.

If they 'get rid of' they can't sign other players(other then minimum) if already over the cap, correct?

To do basically anything, they will need to trade players like those two to bring in other players that they want to resign.

This should be real fun to watch, especially when they don't win this season (and PLEASE don't tell me it is not now an expectation).

James handpicked this team the night he met with Gilbert.

Of course he needed Love to agree to it, but if I were a betting man I would guess they had already had the conversation.

Bad move for Cleveland IMO. Wiggins is a great prospect and considerably cheaper than Love.

An lets not forget Lebron, Love and Irving were all undisputed #1 options last year - this year one of them is going to be #3. They'll be going from 20/25 shots per game to 10 shots.

It rarely works out when three superstars join teams. Miami was a big exception but Wade and Bosh knew beforehand they were going to be #2 and 3.

Obviously we'll have to wait and see but either Love or Irving are going to be EXTREMELY disappointed!

James is almost 30, they have to TRY and win now. They can't afford to wait 2-3 years for Wiggins to develop. By then....James will be on the decline. He's played in 1,000 games in his career and logged a lot of mileage. By then, he'll have another 170-190 games played.

The bench doesn't matter, they play limited minutes they need veterans that can still play for voices in the locker room and for key situations. It is very important they got some of these guys.

Only people who would say this are people who are afraid their team won't have a decent bench.
It's absolutely ridiculous to say that.

The bench means less in the playoffs, but if you don't have one in the regular season it takes quite a toll on the starters.

Love is opting out and will resign a 5 yr $120mil contract next year.. how can they afford all that? Lebron at max, Irving at max and Love at max? Miami was only able to sign the 3 because they all took less then max.

The salary cap rises each year. They'll be maxed out with those 3 so a bench will be hard to patch together, but they can afford all 3.

Um, they'll be maxed out. They won't be over the lux tax though.

Irving, 18 million.

James, 21 million.

Love will be making the most if he gets 24 million a season.

Quick math, that's 63 million.

This is actually worse than what miami did when you really sit down and think about it. I thought the new CBA was supposed to prevent this?

Has Irving completed a full season yet? I thought he was a little injury prone.. Miller was lucky to finish last season with no injury, I like Miller so for his sake I hope he can stay healthy another year.

Irving and Love are both injury prone, that's why you need a bench. And to rest the starters since you can't play them 40-42mpg and expect them to be ready for the postseason.

Just.

Even with the cap rising, it means three of those guys will earn a combine $55m. They then have to put another 11 guys on the roster with $9m...

The SAN ANTONIO SPURS firmly believe that bench depth and coaching are over-rated.

I didn't mean it doesn't matter, I meant that they play limited minutes and they needed those veterans other than 4 guys all of them are young man. You need some older guys. They are definitely younger than the Heat and they have more quality older guys on this team.

Their bench might be old for the most part but they have leasership, guys who can play in key moments, and good sharp shooters. This is a good thing.

Shouldn't your BEST players be on the floor during key moments?

If you get Allen, and he's taking any shot, any time..I can understand.

Anyone else on that bench. No way.

I find it funny how everyone tore Miami up for creating the big 3 and was claiming tampering and such.. yet LBJ went on vacation with Jones and Ray Allen and convinced them to sign with Cleveland (we know Ray will) he called Miller a week before he made his decision and told him he wanted him to come play in Cleveland. Secretly met with Gilbert. Called Waiters 5 days prior to the decision and told him. I would bet anything he spoke with Love and had that in the works.. And for this he gets nothing but praise and Cleveland is brilliant ...

Wait until the summer of '16!

Funnier yet, Gilbert was the biggest proponent against this.

And, not that I care, but I thought Wiggins couldn't be mentioned in a trade for 30 days????:wtf2:
