3 team deal lets Cavs free up cash

The Cleveland Cavaliers will trade Jarrett Jack to the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday as part of a three-team deal with Boston to create more salary-cap space for the pursuit of LeBron James, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that the Nets have agreed to take on the contracts of Jack and youngster Sergey Karasev from the Cavaliers in a swap that will also see the Celtics acquire Brooklyn's Marcus Thornton, Cleveland's Tyler Zeller and a protected 2016 first-round pick from the Cavaliers.

"I'm very, very excited. Obviously, playing in New York is a compliment in and of itself," Jack told ESPN's Josina Anderson. "The opportunity to play at the Barclays every night, I couldn't be happier."

Cleveland will take back the draft rights to Ilkan Karaman and Edin Bavcic from the Nets to complete the transaction, a league source told ESPNNewYork.com's Ohm Youngmisuk. The moves will give the Cavaliers significant financial flexibility by shedding the contracts of Jack, Zeller and Karasev.

Meanwhile, ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard reports that the Cavaliers, in addition to James, are also now trying to strike a deal with free-agent guard Ray Allen and/or forward Mike Miller as a means of enticing James even more about a return to Cleveland.

Well unfortunately the deal isn't only up 2 Flip...the team he deals him 2 would have 2 accept the fact that Love won't sign an extension if it's not where he wants 2 be. That will scare a lot of teams off...and Cleveland was 1 of those teams.

Exactly my point. Everyone saw last season's "Dwightmare" with the Lakers. I really doubt Minny can move him without it being a sign and trade. No team wants that happening to them.

There is a possibility that he could be moved without a sign and trade as a "rental" at the trade deadline to a team that feels they can get to/go further in the playoffs by adding him. Then take their chances after the season. But, short of that, I don't see Minny being able to move him without a sign and trade or at least some assurances from Love that he will re-sign.

Be a decision at 7

Since the meeting is at 6, is that really some stretch?

I predict it will get dark here in a few hours.

Still thinking miami is trying to push bosh to houston. Once that happens then the likely hood of lebron and carmelo teaming up in miami will be huge... Cleveland just seems like the desperate ex gf that would do anything to get you back..

Carmelo Anthony waiting on LeBron James decision before choosing team

A number of rival teams increasingly believe that New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony plans to hold off on announcing any decision about his future until LeBron James reveals where he'll be playing next season, according to sources close to the process.

Sources told ESPN.com that Anthony, whose decision was widely expected before a resolution to James' situation when free agency began, has kept the Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and other suitors waiting at least in part to see where James goes and whether there would be any option to join his close friend.

Sources say that the Knicks thought they'd know by Monday if Anthony was prepared to commit to new team president Phil Jackson for the long term or sign with the Lakers instead. The Knicks can offer Anthony a five-year maximum deal valued at $129 million, with the Lakers' max offer topping out at $96 million over four years.

The Lakers' pitch to Anthony included a conversation with Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, according to ESPN. Johnson called from his European vacation because, as one source put it, "He will always be a Laker. If he was in town, he'd have been in the meeting."

Los Angeles is determined to wait on James and Anthony before moving on in its pursuit of other free agents. James and Anthony are the Lakers' main targets, but with each passing day, the franchise gets antsy about potentially missing on other free-agent targets such as Pau Gasol and Trevor Ariza.

Just some threads into this one. We don't need a new thread every time someone has an idea or thinks they hear something.

We already have this thread.

OK, like I said earlier....if Cleveland gets Lebron and trades for Kevin Love, they take away NY's 2015 plan. If that's the case, the only reason I see Melo to NY is for the cash...which I'm assuming what will happen

The Cavs pie in the sky thinking has no basis in reality. They do not have the assets to get Love. Both the Warriors & Suns have better assets.
Not sure if they throw in Wiggins, some first round picks and unload a big salary that expires next year. I do agree that right now the Warriors have a better position but Cavs will do everything in their power to ensure they get James so they may give up even more.

If they can't get Love to commit no way in hell Lebron will commit. C'mon Cavs you have fucking 40 minutes!
