Well, I experienced my first tornado today... that was something else!

yeah, we're good. It hit about 45 minutes from my house, but it was right next to where my office was.

It was pretty weird, driving in, up ahead i could see all the dark clouds and what not, but no rain, wind, etc, nothing...then i hit town limits, and out of no where the rain was just pouring down, couldnt see 20 feet in front of me, trees down in the road, power lines flapping in the wind...and i'm pretty sure i drove right into a funnel cloud that was trying to form (i dont think it ever touched ground though).

Just north of my office (maybe a mile) got it far worse though, confirmed F-1, 2 dead, couple dozen injured

That's awful. I've never experienced a tornado, but a derecho came through two years ago out of nowhere. Calm one second, then 70+mph winds the next. Kinda eerie honestly.

yeah i really feel for the family of the 2 that died. Talked to my buddy in the office who is a volunteer firefighter, said it was a family of 5 tent camping in the campground, tree came down and landed on the two 38 year old parents, who died at the scene. 13 year old son is in critical condition, and 2 younger girls had minor injuries.

he said the scene was pretty gruesome

glad all is well, i never experienced a tornado. but i remember doing a baseball camp at old dominion when i was a kid. there were 3 different funnels that formed. (not sure what the difference is) i thought that was crazy and we all had to hit the gym.

That's horrible. So sad for those kids. I can't imagine the heartache they feel.

Tornadoes terrify me because of the sheer power and unpredictability of them. Glad the 757 family is doing ok though. Take care!

Yeah, we're OK. Hope that's the last time I get called saying "your house is on fire"! Thank God, though, it could have been a lot worse. Nobody was hurt, it was a small fire that was easily put out, I've got insurance, etc. We'll have everything patched up in another week or so.

We're #1!

VT was voted #1 for Best Campus Food by the Princeton Review again. We've been like top 5 for 10 years or something but its only the third time we've been #1 (2008 and 2010). I keep reading how awesome Turner Place is and I've debated going in there to eat when I'm in the Burg. Can alumni even do that? I'm sure there's a way but I never bothered to see how non-students eat. I remember some parents visiting their kids eating on campus so I assume it works the same way.

So I just learned that a Mellow Mushroom is opening in Blacksburg real soon. Never been to one but I've heard good things. What makes me excited is they have tons of beer; many many craft beers. What I'm saying is when I go to games, I may never get to the stadium now.
