Doubt many conferences would be standing in-line to snatch up Liberty. I would expect Richmond or ODU to be the first state FCS school to make that jump (if they are ever offered).

Richmond's stadium is way too small at the moment. ODU was supposedly offered that by C-USA and hasn't taken it yet, though I think it's a matter of time for them.

The interesting thing about Liberty is their student capacity. They have an average campus but a huge online enrollment. No offense to their students, but admission and ciriculum isn't difficult, from what I've dealt with. The popularity of Fallwell and their strategy for the school has greatly expanded their reach too. All of this yields a much larger than expected base to work with, that will only increase in the future. I don't see this leading to a successful venture into big boy football, but they are a unique case study.

The University of Richmond has gone all in on FCS football. The location of their brand new on-campus venue is nearly impossible to expand, as there is simply not enough infrastructure there. Football capacity is LESS THAN their basketball arena by design. Even if they could expand it, the wealthy neighborhood would block it. City Stadium, owned by the City of Richmond, will not be available to them in the future, and I'm surprised it hasn't been sold and demo'd yet.

I agree that ODU is likely to be the first to jump to FBS, if one does. ODU has the location, resources, and momentum in the process right now. I'd add that JMU eventually could as well, if certain things fell into place for them.

Been a lot of rumors that VCU could look to purchase it for a football team in the future but with them moving to the A-10 I'm not sure if that will impact any decisions. U of R plays basketball in the A-10 and football in the CAA but with VCU departing that may not be an option for them.
