Just remember guys. A reason for optimism is we can’t possibly be as injured as last year. Haven’t even played a ST game yet and he have heard about our 4th injury. Man good thing the new DR. was “our biggest acquisition of the offseason.”
To recap. Dyson $3.75 apy and was roughly a 2ish WAR despite missing 6 weeksThat's it? That averages to $3.75m per year. Not bad for a guy who has premium defensive value and is one of the most dangerous runners on the bases. Really wish we had retained him.

Gordon $10 apy, goes up $13 mil next year and was roughly 3.3 WAR last year
Also let’s not forget he’s switching positions at age 30, cost one of our only decent pitching prospects and likely budgeted us out of addressing another need this offseason. ( i won’t say pitching because the whole rotation could be hurt and Dipoto would still love our young controllable depth)
Ya, the organization is so lost. The dude played so well for them last year and they a guy like him. So they can't afford a dude who energized the entire team or a legitimate starter? Payroll has been added to the strengths of the team but put a hole defensively and still haven't addressed the one lone weakness on the team. How pathetic is it that a minor injury to Erasmo fricking Ramirez causes a minor freakout because he is a 4th starter on this roster.
So to recap, the Mariners OF consists of a guy who have never played CF, in RF who in no way can be considered reliable (not his fault but it's not James Paxton fault either) and in LF we have two wildcards. Gamel was great for a couple of months and Heredia is still really raw and platooning him I think will stunt his growth.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Additionally, I think that WAR underrates players who steal a lot of bases. The 3.3 WAR I think should be a bit higher as I feel that he contributed a lot on offense due to his ability on the bags.
For $3.75m per year, I'd love to have a guy like Dyson as a 4th outfielder/running replacement. I'm willing to bet that we are going to need a replacement for Ben Gamel, then we will need a replacement for Haniger when he suffers his inevitable injury.
At the risk of sounding redundant, I'd prefer that Heredia stays in AAA to work on his approach at the plate. Given the injury concern with Haniger, and the expected regression of Gamel, a 4th outfielder is actually quite necessary for a team like ours. I'd take Dyson for $3.75m per year in a heartbeat.
If it was up to me I'd actually have the OF be Dyson in CF with Gordon and Haniger being the corner outfielders. I think Dyson offers much more value than Ben Gamel.
Fuck. I'm agreeing with Cougs.

Id be down for some Dickerson.Food for thought:
Corey Dickerson: 33 doubles, 4 triples, 27 home runs, .282/.325/.490, 2.8 oWAR -0.9 dWAR
Ben Gamel: 27 doubles, 5 triples, 11 home runs, .275/.322/.413 1.8 oWAR -1.3 dWAR
Must add that both had substantial declines in the second half of the season, but Dickerson has a much better track record.
Yup. Doesn't make sense to me.
In my opinion, it seems inevitable that Gamel will lose his starting job. Haniger is great when he's on the field, but he has a substantial injury history. And as you said, Heredia needs time to develop some more. I really do like Heredia, I think it's impressive he hit as well as he did with a serious injury and such an atrocious approach at the plate, but I'd like to see him iron out some issues in AAA instead of sitting on the bench as our 4th outfielder.
Dyson is still a starting caliber CF and the D'Backs just nabbed him for $7m over 2 years.
I had faith in JD at one point, and I don't think he's a stupid guy, but based on his comments to the media it really looks like his hubris has got in the way of his decision making ability.
Here it is again. Can you expound? As I mentioned before, the oblique strain is legit, I get it. His other injury was a fastball to the face. The narrative around here is that Haniger suffers a soft tissue injury monthly and its simply not the case.
I like Souza, where were you on that one dipotoSeattle area guy:
