If Suh truly wants to be a Detroit Lion, Mayhew and Lewand, IMHO, will offer him the highest contract he'll receive

I think it's up to Suh now

Fuck this regime for failing to build a real contender around Suh. No wonder he wants to leave. Never once won the division. I guarantee his next team wins their division at some point.

Lions will totally suck again without him.

Yeah- just because we didn't tag him (simply wasn't feasible) doesn't mean he's done as a Lion. Still got every chance to sign him to a long-term deal.

Not tagging him is actually a good thing as to him staying long-term, imo, since tagging him now would have been $26 million, then we're staring at a 20% increase in that number as the starting point for his 2016 salary. Our negotiating leverage would be fucked at that point. If we had tagged him he'd be hitting the open market again next season with higher salary demands. At least this way we got a shot to get him the best contract.

We also have to consider that he simply doesn't want to be in Detroit...

I read something that insinuated the Lions were only offering a contract of $15 mil per year. Fucking idiots.

It's in that article from the Detroit Lions.com, I posted.

The Lions are hoping for a long-term deal that would pay Suh around $15 million per year and be much friendlier to their salary cap than the $26.9 million franchise tag.

Suh will still have a charge of $9.7 million on the Lions’ 2015 cap whether he stays or goes due to a sixth-year option built into his contract and a couple of simple restructures he’s agreed to in past seasons.

If Suh leaves, the Lions will save a large chunk of cap space, but at what price to one of the league’s top defenses? Suh isn’t the kind of player a team can just go out and replace.

Still, the Lions feel they can win without Suh, if he were to leave. They decided it wasn't in the best interest of the team to limit how they could improve in other areas with him carrying that big of a cap number in 2015.

Absolutely REVOLTING to read the comments flowing in all over the internet from fans of 31 other fan bars BEG for Suh after years of talking nothing but shit about him and the Lions.

Lions are about to become a bottom 5 team in the NFL, start looking at top 5 prospects in the 2016 draft.

Worst day since Barry retired.

Yup. That was it, BB. If the Lions are topping out at a $15 mil per season offer, Suh is gone. They should at least be offering the value of Watt's contract, IMO.

2Cents. I'm not really sold on the 15M per year only, coming from Twentyman's article, but he should have a better idea than most other beat writers, IMO. McCoy got a contract that averages right at 16M. I would honestly think Suh would be in that range or actually slightly above

Defensive tackle Gerald McCoy, who was taken one spot after Suh (No. 3 overall) in the 2010 draft, signed a $95.2 million deal with a reported $51.5 million guaranteed.

BB_&72......I'm pretty sure, without looking it up, it was for 6 years

I'll take that back. The contract was for 7 years, my bad. So, that averages out to 13.6M per yr

Who knows what they're offering, but if its $15 mil per season it better be damn near fully guaranteed for Suh to even consider it.

Go head Micro. Sell me on how Mayhew and co. return to the playoffs next year. Please cite specific reasons and use history to support your claims.

This regime took 5 years to even find a DC capable of using Suh, but you think this same regime can replace the impact he made.

Let me guess, they'll sign Revis, Hardy and Ngata?

I do not see him staying for 16 a year. IMO he wanted out long before this season. He is after money and I don't blame him. New city means new endorsement deals. That is the money I am speaking of...

Just maybe this will teach them that kicking the can cost you one of the top defensive players in years.

And yet this regime was "very, very confident" a deal would get done.

Mind blowing that these guys STILL have fans. Mesmerized by Bubbles no doubt.

Rob, I'm not attempting to go all "Richard Cranium" on you, but didn't you mention Schwartz as a possible replacement for Austin if he left for a HC job. Schwartz used his system, meaning Suh, and in your above post you're pretty much stating Schwartz didn't use Suh properly. Gunther, IMO, did what Schwartz "told him to do" as far as system, scheme, implementation (players also).
