Deal is close, apparently. Keenum and a 7th for the Skins' 6th.

Really??? I’d have thought Denver could get a six-pack of Coronas or a bottle of Jack as well.....Deal is close, apparently. Keenum and a 7th for the Skins' 6th.
Also, we get there 2020 6th round .nothing this year.
Doesn't this mean we basically gave away Keenum? When you trade for a pick in the next year then it would usually be a round higher. Right? So we did this so they take Keenum's contract? Seems like Keenum for a 6th or 7th would have been a better deal.
Looks like this creates a $7 MM dead money hit instead of Denver having a $10 MM dead money hit for releasing Keenum.

I wonder if he’s forgetting about Keenum’s signing bonus. Denver would still have to count that against the 2019 cap as the signing bonus would be spread out over the two years of the contract. The bonus adds $3 MM in dead money.With this reported trade, the Denver Broncos would eat up $3.5 million dollars in dead money, as well as give Keenum his $500K bonus. But they would get $18 million of it back. This would be a huge, not to mention smart, move by John Elway. Not to mention it could change the tide of free agency for the Denver Broncos.
If this guy is right it is 4 million
@cdumler7
Any word if the Broncos have any interest in Pierre Desir, Kareem Jackson, Landon Collins, Eric Weddle, Aaron Lynch, or Tim Jernigan?
If we kept Keenum, he had a $21 MM cap hit: $18 MM salary and $3 MM in prorated signing bonus from 2018. If we released him, the hit was $10 MM, with $7 MM the guaranteed salary. If we traded him under the 2018 contract, we would have only a $3 MM cap hit, but the other team would have to agree to take on $18 MM in salary.He said that I belive . 18 salary $3.5 million dollars in dead money, as well as give Keenum his $500K bonus
That 3.5 and$500K bonus I guess is all bonus money

It looks like Keenum restructured to facilitate a trade that would not cost much against the receiving team’s cap while also providing us with more relief than simply releasing Keenum.
So the way I see it: Denver’s dead money = $3 MM in prorated bonus + $3.5 MM in assumed salary for 2019, and $500,000 in additional signing bonus for the restructure = $7 MM.
Unless I’m missing something.....
