Not going to say this is some steal, but I can't hate it. As I've said before, a solid B grade player. Fills an immediate hole, what we want to do.. I'm good with it. I'll give a B. This is not some massive value steal, it's a solid pick for what the draft offered us.

Dart over Sanders? I would 100% take Dart over Sanders. Giants need to take Dart.

Edit: And they did, smart move. Sanders should drop out of the 1st now. Remember they were talking this guy up as possible 1st pick this just goes to show HOW BADLY Ward was over drafted these are 2nd round QB's and Dart was better than both.

Sanders not drafted in the 1st and is still like only the 9th best player left LMAO. My want is there still but he wont be when we pick in the 2nd. Safety Nick Emmanwori. Maybe the Hawks snag C Jared Wilson or OT A. Ersery in the 2nd, one or maybe even both will still be there. If instead they go WR or TE then well there is Higgins at WR and Arroyo or Taylor at TE. Again 1 of those will drop to the Hawks.

So Zabel gives us a solid option at Guard and ALSO a good option to play Right tackle if Abe Lucas is MIA for half the season. This will help the Hawks keep the "better" talent on the field. So if this is their play do they double dip for another Guard or a player that can play guard and center hmmm? Someone like Jared Wilson?

Glad we took Zabel because Jackson going to the Vikings - wow. He was the other guy I wanted if we didn't address OL in the 1st but already gone. Booker gone... Rumor is Seattle was looking to trade down. I think they wanted Zabel all along so the trade was probably going to be a small one into the early 20s. And then Simmons went too... yeesh.

I would love WIlson or Ratledge in the second. Zabel does address a need, but we still have needs there.

I still wouldn't mind Arroyo or Higgins for an offensive weapon.

As I keep thinking back, we've invested a lot in the defense. Murphy (top 20), Witherspoon (top 5), Love (money), Mafe/Hall (2nd rounders), Jones (4th + money), Knight (4th), Williams (2nd + money), D Law (money), Reed (money).... we are the LEAST paid offense in the league this year, lol. I think our defense has enough help. Use our 3rds on some decent defenders... keep our 2nds focused on the OL and a WR (since we dumped one and WISELY traded the other).

This is exactly the pick the Seahawks should have made and they did it. Kudos to JS for breaking his own philosophy

From what I understand the Hawks were trying to trade down (typical Schneider) but I don't think it could've been too much. And I think that's why they didn't. I think they were trying to negotiate with early 20 picking teams, and just couldn't get a bite. And that's because:

NFL Teams made it VERY clear that OL was a high need this draft. And Seattle is not the only team with OL problems. I'd say the MAJORITY of NFL teams have it. It's hard to find 5 guys that have the talent and drive to pull it off in today's NFL (especially with the HUGE emphasis on pass rushing and the passing game).

Pats: "Should they trade down, maybe move up for Hunter?" Nope - just take Campbell.
Jets: "Loveland and Warren are there!" Nope - Membou (despite character concerns)
Saints: "Surely they could use a weapon or QB!" Nope - just take Banks.
Cowboys: "I MEAN WARREN IS THERE. Witten 2.0?" Nope - just take Booker (despite being one of the worst combine testers ever)
Vikings: "I mean they just signed Fries to some mega contract, and O'Neill/Darrisaw are great and you've got Kelly who is okay!" Fuck off - don't care, taking Jackson (despite being a mid 2nd round prospect).
Chiefs: "I mean I know they need a tackle after the SBOWL, but there's some good talent on the board an-" Fuck off - don't care, we're taking a tackle who may never be healthy.

Point being, if Seattle had waited until 50, I don't know if anything would be left (that's at least starter material). I now even question whether or not Ratledge or Wilson will even be there. And trading up? Well after what the Falcons gave up that might be a less than desirable play.

We have a gaping hole at LG. You could argue we have had a gaping hole at LG since Hutch left. They needed to take the best possible guy to fill that hole.

Agreed flyer.

My point was, I don't think Seattle had much flex to trade back or really wait any longer. If you look at the draft board right now for suitable starting material at left guard... there's nothing really left. And who went in the top 15 - really highlighted that.

I'm glad Seattle didn't try to get to cute here... after I saw OL flying off the boards early (NONE of them falling) I was getting a bit nervous we'd try to do something cute and end up in disaster. Because let's just say we drafted... Starks at 18. Well now we're fucked because if our plan was to take Jackson/Simmons or something, well that's gone... Now we have to panic trade up for.. Ratledge? Jeebus.

Now onto round 2. Players in the mix for pick 50 and 52 with players that could be on the board.

OL
Ratledge
Wilson
I think at least one of them are off the board, maybe both.

WR
Higgins Probably off the board
Tre Harris
Kyle Williams
Jack Bech

Corner
Shavon Revel May be off the board, if still on the board he's a slam dunk.
Trey Amos Likely off the board
Benjamin Morrison

Edge
Bradyn Swinson

Nose tackle

Alfred Collins If they take one this early

For years we complained about PC/JS being too cute and trying to outdraft everyone else. The past few years, JS has really stuck with consensus picks and it has largely worked out.

No reason to change that now.
