Offensive PI calls, Gronk, and collective head shaking.

What are your thoughts?

  • The league seems to be singling out the patriots for pushoffs, legit or not. The metrics support it.

  • The league is not singling out anybody. You suck, Rock.

It WAS an OPI.

"They were hand fighting the whole route"

Wasn't the route about a 5 yard up and in?

They were BOTH handfighting, and then he blatantly shoved off when he cut to gain separation.

End of stupid thread
nope. you're wrong.

So they were both hand fighting for 5 yards, then when he makes his break he pushes off, and you don't think that's worth of a penalty?

nope. 5 yards.

I'm pretty sure when you shove a guy away from the play in order to get open it's a penalty whether it's inside 5 yards or not. That is precisely what Gronk did. Go back and look at the gif.

Historically there have been two sets of rulebooks in the NFL.

The one the league wrote and the one the Patriots wrote. The second one is very fluid and changes from week-to-week but has never included the offensive holding or pass interference calls. Weird, huh?

You obviously never heard of Ben Coates.

We asked Rock to bring a dish to the annual SportsHoopla potluck.

He brought something called Sperm Slaw.

No one tried it.

It is unless the officiating crew would rather not be subpoenaed by Judge Berman.

It is all coaching they are taught to push the limits to see what they can get away with. Sometimes they are not able to get away with it and a penalty is called

No one else seemed to think that looking at the same play.

They must all be blind.

I think the OPI is pretty clear cut. Gronk definitely extends his arm and pushes off. If Pats fans want to argue a call I think they have a better case on the holding penalty that brought the long pass back. Even that one is borderline though and could have been called or not called. They happened to call it. It happens trust me. Penalties late in the game killed Seattle against both Arizona and Carolina this year. It is what it is.

When you get Gronk lined up on smaller DB's, his push-offs (and all WR's and TE's do it) are probably more noticeable because of his size and strength in comparison to other WR's/TE's when split out against those same DB's.

Kind of like Shaq with the Lakers during his 3 year run winning titles there. He was so big and so strong, that just turning around and bumping into someone would send them flying. Did he really foul them? Maybe, maybe not, but because of the size/strength discrepancy, he got called for more than his share of fouls. Conversely, the same was true when he had the ball...teams could push him more and foul him more without getting called for it because of the same thing.

I think you see that, also, with Gronk. DB's are pushing on him with no call, and when he pushes, he's getting nailed.

Fair? Probably not, but you have to adapt and overcome.

This too. Again some of the calls on Gronk were absolutely legitimate and I think he's worked on it but.. He's a big dude.
