We should have, but one think that's needed to stay a fan is HOPE. So, to hold onto that hope, we needed to believe that Snyder finally realized he needed a good GM in order to become a contender. I think that's why DGF has posted about making a decision on whether or not to stay a Skins fan. We almost have to stay delusional to stay Skins fans. Kinda like being a Trump fan.
I'm an old fella who's learned that investing something as valuable as hope is a waste of energy and I absolutely refuse to lie to myself, the chief ingredient of the delusional.
I have been a fan of this team since 1960, and have personally taken an all business approach in my support of this team. That approach, bereft of both hope and delusion began just prior to the second Gibbs stint. Not that I wanted to do it that way, but after getting tapped on the frontal lobes for long periods of time that shit has got to eventually hurt. My response seems so natural to me now, however, I do kinda feel for those who are too young to have never experienced what a well run organization and "real" sustained winning is like here in D.C.
To be sure, there's great value in taking a business approach. First, you get to see things as they are and not as you wish or hope them to be. There's the absence of the emotional roller coaster that comes with that old refrain...."This time it will be different!" There are NO attachments to parts (players or staff) so when they leave as they all eventually do, Bye!....I sleep better because game time, drafts and free agency anticipation/ expectations don't exist. Of course if I had a wish, it would be a consecutive string of SB's victories until my dirt nap begins, but as you now know, I don't fuck around with fantasy either.
