Question Of The Day
What is the dumbest way you’ve been injured?

First night on the flight deck. Bent over to walk under an A-4 Skyhawk. Walked directly into the bomb rack and took a bomb ring squarely to the top of the forehead and the jet turned and opened my scalp like a plastic bag. Slight concussion and thirty eight stitches. Went from the flight deck to the mess deck and thirty days of cleaning trays in the scullery.

Playing tackle football with no helmet or pads.

I was 6 years old(1975). Climbing a stop sign. Was going to slide down it like a fireman’s pole. Back in the day we wore short shorts. Like in the NBA. Wasn’t wearing underwear. As I slid down the pole, the pole got wedged in between my leg and scrotum. Which made my scrotum stick to the pole. I slid down.... my scrotum stayed attached to the pole. Almost ripped it off entirely. Can’t remember how many stitches it took to reattach it. My Mom never thought I’d be able to have children.

I can 1 up you: Playing tackle football with no helmet or pads with a mouth full of braces... It was fun pulling my lips out of the braces...

You just reminded me of the most stupid thing I ever did.

When I was ten (1960) we had local Volunteer Fire Department and most of the local men belonged. It was a single tank engine and the siren was located on the nose of the engine hood. It was a heavy steel blade that spun at high speed and the air interruption created the incredible whistle. They responded to a fire call and of course, the siren was on the entire way. It was a false alarm and they came back and the siren was never turned back on, but continued to free spin until it stopped. They backed the engine into the barn and parked it and the big door was open and all of us kids had to go check out the big red machine. I was walking out when I could see the wheel just barely turning inside the siren housing and decided to stick my finger in and stop it I nearly lost the tip of my right index finger. I mean, I nearly cut it off. I got a hundred mile an hour ride in the ambulance all the way to Portland from South Portland, ME to the Maine Medical Center. They wrapped it and put a rubber finger cover on it and said not to do anything for seven days. If it turned black they would have to cut off the end of my finger. If not, it would be okay. I kept it.

Younger days I was talking to a fellow iron worker over an anvil.
During smart-ass discussion, he says "stick your finger out"
I stuck my finger out tinking he would not really swing the 5 pound hammer.
He swung the hammer thinking I would not stick my finger out!
I remember looking at it and wondering why it didn't hurt.
Then I reallized it was temporarily numb.

By the time I got to the nurses station (and the ice) it most certainly hurt - a lot. I mean it hurt a really, really lot!

Why do people feel the need to spell chilli like it's cold instead of chili like the pepper that inspired the dish.

Road Runner, can't see any debating it. One false move and he's served on a platter, yet he's still with us.

Don't know since I don't feet that way about chili and tend to focus more on my own thoughts.

Have to give the nod to Bugs...Road Runner survived more on Wile E.’s ineptitude than his own strategery.

Who are these psychopaths that think chili is winter only?

You hit home with both of these questions.
1) Bugs Bunny all day long. Road Runner can’t even talk. Just “Beep Beep!”

On a side note. My mother’s second uncle(I think that’s what he was) is Mel Blanc who talked for all the Looney Toones characters. She even has a record he made for her and her sisters telling a story using my moms and her sisters names while using several of his character voices. It’s pretty cool.

2) We are having chili tomorrow night for dinner! So it’s all around weather food for me.
