My Redskins Christmas Dream

I hate this dream on so many levels

Kind of a like, dislike response for me.

1. Not real fond of the Gibbs ownership thing but it beats the current guy. How about another owner with the same agenda. I'm not sure Gibbs is up for another business venture, since he has a pretty good one in racing.

2. Love the name change idea, not too fond of "Warriors" though, song would have to be changed while a name like "Warhawks", fits perfectly.

3. The lance is my dream helmet design, as noted in the piece, add the 70th (or was it 75th) anniversary uniforms and my dream is complete with drool. :D

4. Love the idea of a dedicated GM, as everyone here can attest to, I've been up front about doing this since 2012.

5. The personnel moves are ok, the exception is drafting a QB in the 5th round. That's a non-starter with me. Yeah there's been a short list of successful modern day QB's who have been taken in the later rounds, but for me any past the late 2nd, very early 3rd round is a project and they usually are journeymen or worse.

Sorry, I just can't see standing pat with McCoy or Johnson. I would actually sue Mark Sanchez for breech of contract. :D

The move is one that has to be based upon moving away from Alex Smith. At best he won't be fully capable of playing again until midway through the upcoming season at best. We are stuck with his contract unless he suddenly feels compelled to retire instead of merely reporting and collecting money guaranteed him. So we draft a QB, do the Sty and sit him for a year then go Bridgewater and another back-up not named McCoy or Johnson, until Alex is ready to go, since he's going to be here, collecting.

i dont like that either but the trade tied our hands . if you want to sit the rookie economics dictate mccoy and someone else . and that someone else probably isnt very good

you arent getting a foles for 10 mil . maybe TB , maybe fitz , maybe tannehill or bortles but those guys wont solve anything ( TB might )
if we had just signed a FA rather then trade .

Yeah, that's why I named Bridgewater, dude is almost a perfect fit for what's needed in 2019. BTW: we have no differences between us regarding "if we had just signed a FA rather then trade." Not many agreed with my choice, but right now, if we had him this past year, we'd be in a much stronger position as a franchise. Who knows, with him, we might have finished the season with a 7-9, 8-8 type record!:D

  1. Alex Smith - 2019 cap number: $20.4 million - This is highly improbable, but worth mentioning. If the Redskins don't believe Smith will ever return to play football after the violent broken leg injury he sustained in Week 10, maybe the team elects to release Smith. It would come with a massive salary cap penalty, north of $40 million, but then the team would be out from the Smith contract and he would not hinder the organization's salary cap in the 2020 and 2021 seasons. A move like this would be quite unconventional, but at least it would be over. Again, this is highly unlikely.
Do we do this if we choose to tank 19 ?

It seems as if all Bruce has to do is show effort and in that respect, they will end up doing just enough to leave themselves in the 14, 15, 16, drafting position in 2020, or put another way, a business as usual tank.

I wouldn't mind checking out Fitzpatrick or Bridgewater if Smith is out next year.
