Mets ace RHP Max Scherzer (left oblique irritation) is expected to come off the injured list and start Monday in Milwaukee.
Buck Showalter said catcher Tomás Nido was a little sore after getting hit by a couple of foul balls on Wednesday.
RHP Tylor Megill (right shoulder strain) and RHP Drew Smith (right lat strain) are not too far from returning, Showalter said.
Hitting coach Eric Chavez left the team for a few days to go home and attend to a family matter. He'll probably be back next week in Milwaukee, .

Up Next....

RHP Taijuan Walker (11-4, 3.48 ERA) will start the 2nd game of the series on Friday for the Mets. Last time out, Walker tossed seven innings and allowed just one run on five hits, with 10 strikeouts. Pirates RHP Mitch Keller (5-10, 4.01 ERA) will get the start for Pittsburgh.

John Stearns passed away today. I got to go down on the field at Met Park in Norfolk when the Mets were there as a kid. Stearns, Youngblood, and Mazzilli all played catch with me and Swan threw me batting practice. Even as a Yankees fan I would always look to see how those four were doing.
