• Morning Briefing: Can Bartolo Colon continue positive momentum?


NEW YORK -- Fresh off a feel-good win in the series opener, the New York Mets look to keep things rolling with Bartolo Colon on the mound Saturday.

Colon (4-3, 3.39 ERA) opposes Miami Marlins left-hander Justin Nicolino (2-3, 4.50) at 4:10 p.m. ET at Marlins Park.

Colon tossed a nine-hit shutout against the Marlins last September 5 in Miami.

SATURDAY’S NEWS REPORTS:

• David Wright must avoid baseball activity for the next six to eight weeks because of the herniated disk in his neck. The Mets will use Wilmer Flores at third base for now, but they plan to be aggressive -- even more so than last year -- in trying to upgrade the offense from outside the organization. Still, Terry Collins said: “There may not be any help. This may be what we’re running out there. So we’ve got to get the most out of each and every guy.” MLB Trade Rumors compiled a list of potentially available players on the trade market: Trevor Plouffe, Eduardo Nunez, Yangervis Solarte, Jed Lowrie,Danny Valencia, Yunel Escobar, Luis Valbuena, Kelly Johnson, Aaron Hilland Alex Guerrero. • The Replace-Mets got the job done Friday. James Loney delivered a tiebreaking two-run homer, Flores had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored, and Rene Rivera delivered a two-run homer in the Mets’ 6-2 win in the series opener. Noah Syndergaard allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out nine in seven innings. Michael Conforto went 0-for-4 afterdropping from third to fifth in the lineup. • Travis d'Arnaud served as the designated hitter in an extended spring training game in Port St. Lucie on Friday. He should begin an official rehab assignment this weekend, although initially as the DH. Barring a setback, d’Arnaud will return to the Mets within three weeks. Read more in Newsday.
