Familia with an impressive 3 up/3 down ( 2K's) inning for a change.
Really good to see.

8-3 Mets after 7.

Now it's Drew Smith's turn in the 8th.

edit:
Smith makes quick work of the Yanks...1-2-3 in the 8th.

We're going to the 9th.

LGM!

7/3
Mets 8 - Yanks 3

* Welcome back, Brandon Nimmo....( 3 for 6...w/2 runs scored in the leadoff spot)

The Wrap/Recap....

The Box....

The Pics....

Trainer's room....

Mets LHP David Peterson has a right oblique strain and is week to week.
RHP Carlos Carrasco, sidelined since March with a torn right hamstring, could join the rotation in late July or early August. RHP Noah Syndergaard (Tommy John surgery) resumed playing catch about a week ago and is throwing out to 75 feet. INF Jonathan Villar (strained right calf) could rejoin the team Sunday.

Up next....

Mets RHP Marcus Stroman (6-6, 2.45) will start the opener of Sunday's split-doubleheader
against Yankees ace RHP Gerrit Cole (8-4, 2.66). Neither team was decided on a starter for the nightcap, although the Yankees are likely to go with LHP Nestor Cortes Jr. (0-0, 1.02). The Mets had initially said rookie Tylor Megill (0-0, 4.82) would pitch, but they are now considering saving him for Monday's nine-inning home game against Milwaukee.

Sheeesh...it's no fun when only some of the team came ready to play...and some didn't.
Unforced errors and mental lapses will get ya just about every time.

Yanks scored 3 times in the 2nd (only 1 run was earned) due to a couple of Mets gaffes.
Stro already over 40 pitches.

Mets trail 3-1...end of 2.

Yanks add on.
Mets down 4-1 heading to the 4th.

Good news from other games today....
The Dodgers beat the Nats earlier...the Padres are beating Philly in the 6th...and the Braves are losing in the 7th.

Mets have loaded the bases in the 4th...and Nido singled in a run...still no outs.

4-2.

Edit:

Yes...
Nimmo slaps a 1 out rbi single to shallow right..to make it a 4-3 game...and in the process chases Cole.

Bags still full o Mets...

Boone signals to the Yanks pen...

Yes!

Lindor ties it up with an rbi single...but Nimmo is thrown out at 3rd for the 2nd out.

4-4.

Dom works a 2 out walk, to load the bases for *Pete.

LGM!

*but he grounded out to end it by going after a sinker near his ankles.

Chapman hits Conforto...and walks McNeil......then gets yanked....pun intended.
Rojas goes to the bench for Pillar to PH for McKinney...and he singles....to load the bases...still no outs.

Nido is called back.... McCann is now in to PH...

WOW!
Nimmo follows that with a 2 run single....and takes 2nd on Judge's throwing error.

Mets 9 - Yanks 5

Edit:
And Lindor plates him with an rbi knock....

It's now 10 - 5 Amazins.

Dom grounded out...so it's back to Pete now as the Mets bat around in the 7th.
Pete fans to end it.....but the Mets put up a 6 spot...as we head to the stretch.

Also...Philly lost at home to SD a bit ago. Braves are now tied in the 10th w/ Miami...and the Nats lost too.

My bad....in all the excitement..I forget this was just a 7 inning game because of the double header....lol

Seth Lugo does his job as required..and sets them down in order 1-2-3 FTW!

Mets take the DH opener 10-5.

2nd game begins in about 90 min.
