Jets sign kicker Randy Bullock, place Nick Folk on IR

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (11/10) -- To replace Nick Folk, who was put on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday, the New York Jets signed former Houston Texans kicker Randy Bullock.

Bullock, 25, practiced Tuesday with the Jets. He emerged after a four-player audition Monday that consisted of Garrett Hartley, Billy Cundiff and Kyle Brindza.

Jets coach Todd Bowles said the decision to place Folk on IR was made because the kicker might need eight weeks to recover.

Bullock was a fifth-round draft pick of the Texans in 2012, when Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan was a Texans scouting executive.

Houston cut Bullock after he missed two extra-point attempts the first three games of this season. In fact, he became the first kicker to miss a PAT from the new distance of 33 yards. He was replaced by Nick Novak.

In three seasons, Bullock has made 61 of 76 field goals (80.3 percent). He missed his rookie year because of a groin tear.

Folk was injured during warm-ups Sunday. He said he felt "a little pop" in his kicking leg. He went to the locker room for treatment but wasn't able to do any kicking in the Jets' 28-23 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

"It was just the uncertainty of everything," Folk said. "Being my quad muscle on my right side, it is tough, just unknown really. [Returning in] four weeks would be pushing it. Could someone come back running in four weeks? Yeah. Doing the kicking motion? Maybe not."

Folk said there is no tear or structural damage in his quad but the injury is considered a Grade 1 strain to one of the most important muscles for kicking.

"Top of the quad, right near the hip flexor, part of the leg that really brings the leg forward," Folk explained. "It's one of the most important ones for a kicker. Just got to let it heal."

Punter Ryan Quigley became the emergency kicker Sunday against the Jaguars and went 4-for-4 on extra points. He didn't attempt any field goals.

Folk, 31, has been a consistent and durable kicker for the Jets, who signed him in 2010. Sunday marked the first time he has been injured. He has made 13 of 16 field goals this season (81.3 percent), which is slightly better than his career average. He has never missed an extra point, having converted 311 attempts in his career.

ESPN.com's Ohm Youngmisuk contributed to this report.

Jets activate Dee Milliner, place Willie Colon on IR

Rich Cimini, ESPN Staff Writer

New York -- 11/11
On the eve of facing the Buffalo Bills, the New York Jets made two significant roster moves, activating cornerback Dee Milliner from short-term injured reserve on Wednesday and placing starting right guard Willie Colon on IR.

The Jets need cornerback help because Antonio Cromartie officially is listed as doubtful. Cromartie, who suffered a deep thigh bruise Sunday, missed three straight days of practice. The nine-year veteran never has missed a game due to injury, but his Iron Man streak likely will end.

Cromartie will be replaced in the starting lineup by Buster Skrine or Marcus Williams. Skrine is questionable with shoulder and hand injuries, but he's expected to play.

The Jets had until 4 p.m. to make a decision on Milliner, who would've gone on season-ending IR if they hadn't activated him. Chances are, they would've made the move anyway, but Cromartie's injury situation made it a no-brainer.

Milliner, the ninth overall pick in 2013, underwent wrist surgery in the preseason. The former starter, plagued by injuries in his first two seasons, was projected at the start of training camp as the No. 4 corner in the Jets' new-look secondary, but he could have a larger role than anticipated.

Brian Winters will replace Colon in the lineup. Winters has 20 career starts, but only two at right guard -- both this season.

Colon's season is over, and quite possibly his career. The 32-year-old lineman, who missed the last game, has been dealing with chronic knee issues. He sprained an MCL in Week 3 and had been fighting to stay on the field.

As expected, the Jets ruled out strong safeties Calvin Pryor and Dion Bailey, both of whom are recovering from high-ankle sprains. They could start Williams, who struggled two weeks ago at safety, or Rontez Miles, just up from the practice squad.

Center Nick Mangold, who couldn't finish last week's game because of a lingering neck injury, is probable for Thursday night.

Injuries have created a roster crunch as the Jets (5-3) head into the second half of the season. On Tuesday, they put longtime kicker Nick Folk (quadriceps strain) on IR because they couldn't carry two kickers. They signed Randy Bullockas his replacement.

"There are a lot of moving parts, obviously," coach Todd Bowles said. "We have to sort through it and make the best decisions."

Last night's embarrassing display was hard to watch. I had a feeling midway thru the 2nd qtr it wouldn't end well for Gang Green.

It's like they were sleepwalking through knee high mud wearing lead boots.

Thank goodness I switched channels at halftime to watch some NBA instead, or something might have been tossed at my TV screen.

At least I won't have to go shopping for a new one this weekend....lol

Jets can return the favor and begin reversing that trend in week 17 up in Buffalo. That game may also have a wild card berth riding on it.

First things first...they better start by TCOB in Houston in 9 days....then go from there.

giving up 13 points on 3 turnovers to division rival at home was just bad.....this loss is going to hurt bad in any tie breaker scenarios

You're preaching to the choir, dude. After reading through some of the post game summary..it was beyond just bad...it was inexcusable and unacceptable.

Don't know if it was due to the short week, (2 games in 4 days)...or lack of preparation, or injuries....but hey Buffalo was on a short week too..and they've also got injuries to deal with, plus they were on the road....so the whole thing was an ugly clusterfucked squandered opportunity from this Jets fan's standpoint.

No sugar coating here, and no one to blame but themselves....the Bills just wanted it more and they took it. Period.
Jets were flat and played uninspired low energy heads up their assess football. Now they get some extra rest to heal up and prepare for what better be a solid rebound effort.

Crucial OT win for gang green against their housemates yesterday. 7-5, currently in the #6 seed, with 4 games left means they probably need to win 3 of those to stay in the WC hunt. Marshal, Decker, Fitz...and the D Line were stellar. Revis should be back for next week's home game against the Titans....then it's a Saturday night game in Dallas, before fishing up against the Pats at home, and the Bills in Buffalo.

This thread needs more excitement. Congrats to Jets today for dumping the fruity 49'ers with that nasty kneeling America hater Kaperneck and their worthless bozo of a coach Chip Kelly who ruined the Eagles.
