Great news, and definitely was not expecting that. Obviously would have been game changing to get the #1, but when you add this #2 to what they already have going in development, this is all looking extremely positive. Reading different things on how it could be a crapshoot after the #1, but there appears to be some consensus growing on that Quinton Byfield kid. Kings having sort of a good "problem" with all the center depth they have (boosted by that Toffoli trade as well). Absolutely can't complain, but would like to see the Kings try to add some defensive prospects to go with all this forward talent they're stockpiling.

Very exciting news (Especially after getting shafted last year, and seemingly every year).

I would prefer stutzle, but would be ok with byfield...rumor is they are looking at drysdale. Personally i want the best player at #2, not what someone thinks the kings "need".

If the Kings don’t take Byfield, I hope they trade out of the #2 spot. Get Drysdale and another pick type of deal. They have another first to get a defenseman , I believe.

Been diving in on some Youtube vids and articles, and you guys might be right. Craig Button was doing a breakdown and he said of their panel of ten "Experts" (Whatever that is worth. I honestly don't know), they had 5 pick Byfield at #2 and 5 pick Stutzle at #2. The only reason they put Stutzle as their #2 is because of the 5 experts that didn't pick Byfield #2, 2 of those guys had him significantly lower.

The argument against Byfield is that that QMJHL has poor defense and this allows him to basically stack his points with his speed. But they say he's like Malkin on the upside.

I don't know enough, but they were bigger on Stutzle overall with his stickhandling and overall skillset ("Can stickhandle in a phone booth"). They are both very fast too.

To be honest, it's hard to mess up a top 2 pick, so it's all good. Would just love to see LA look more towards building their defensive prospects after that top pick. Spend the rest of the rounds on getting some defensive prospects. D usually take longer to develop, but you can find plenty of talent in later rounds.

Yeah who knows. Byfield still real raw and they say having him learn under Kopitar was probably the difference. He can spend a few years learning how to play the game correctly from Kopi and set LA up down the middle. LA has an embarrassment of riches at center now, so hopefully set down the middle for next decade.

Overall, Stutzle just keeps getting compared to Patrick Kane and Peter Forsberg with his vision and stickhandling, so that was just my thinking. Don't want to watch that guy go on to have a hall of fame career when LA could have had him.

But both guys projected high, so def still excited for the Kings' haul.

I am watching Rounds 2-7, and Kings have a ton more picks coming up, so def excited to see what they can do the rest of today.

Perfect guy to pair with Doughty? haha

What’s there to like?

He’s a 6’3” right-handed offensive defenseman that is confident with the puck on his stick and is a strong skater. Although he’s never produced a high goal-scoring season outside of a U-16 campaign back in 2017-18, Grans has a decent shot and does a good job finding lanes to utilize it, as he’s also a good transition player who is able to recover well to cover up his or his teammates’ mistakes on the rush. Thanks to his size, he’s able to use his reach to both maintain possession in the offensive zone.

Also maybe sounds like Muzzin.

What’s not to like?

Concerns over his decision making, defensive zone coverage, and the fact he isn’t extremely physical for his size. The lack of physicality may not be a deal breaker to most clubs, but if Grans never improves his on-ice decision making it could greatly limit his potential at the highest level. He feels somewhat like Phil Myers in that he possesses a lot of the tools you want in a modern defenseman, but every once in a while he completes or reads a play that makes you go ‘what were you even doing there?’ Luckily for us Myers doesn’t consistently provide questionable plays, but if a defenseman makes enough terrible decisions with and without the puck it essentially cancels out whatever physical gifts they may have.

Not too familiar with him, but 7th overall pick in 2017. Maybe change of culture turns him into a Jack Campbell situation where he can maybe become something. Move sounds good to me.

Trade: Rangers send Lias Andersson to Kings for second-round pick

By Adam GretzOct 7, 2020, 2:15 PM EDT

  • The New York Rangers have officially moved on from Lias Andersson, trading him to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday afternoon.
In return the Kings received the No. 60 overall pick in the 2020 NHL draft.
They used that pick to select William Cuylle.
The big story here is the fact the Rangers were seemingly unable to salvage their relationship with Andersson, ending a highly disappointing three-year run with the organization.
The Rangers originally selected him with the No. 7 overall pick in 2017 after acquiring that pick (as well as defenseman Tony DeAngelo) from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta.
Since then Andersson has appeared in just 66 NHL games, scoring three goals and recording six assists.
He had just one assist in 17 games during the 2019-20 season.

Nice, im perfectly fine with the deal. If he continues to bust.....oh well
Concerns I have are the silver medal tossing incident some years back, a reported sense of entitlement because of NHL bloodlines and telling the Rags he wouldn't come back to NA in July.

Definitely a reclamation project which is a little scary to say since the 2017 draft wasn't that long ago. At least they used someone else's pick and not their own.

Hard to argue that Stutzle isn't the more dynamic player right now, but Ottawa still loses a ton of games. Kings probably would've failed to develop him anyway, just like they keep failing to develop their existing guys. You see the year Vilardi is having, and how Kempe arrived last year at age 25, I would expect Byfield to take off around 2027. So keep the faith. jk.
