Pens played a good game, but this was more a case of the Canucks playing bad tonight more then anything.

exciting game... Pens looking real good lately, since Orpik called out the defense after the Bruins game. Playing smart simple hockey. They have the talent, just need to stay humble and continue to work not expect anything to be handed to them.

depends on how u look at it. I thought Fleury played a great game tonight. Nucks had their chances, he just shut down all but one of them

Chances and quality chances are two different things , Canucks played an awful game , seemed like they wanrted to just be done with this road trip

I know the Pens PK has been solid all year, but they looked at their best this year, playing even more aggressive and confident than usual. Talbot's SH goal seemed to just up the ante.

No doubt the Pens caught the nucks at a good time. It worked out the opposite way last season for vancouver after the pens were on the west coast for a while. Going 0-5 on the PP certainly didn't help their cause tonight, especially giving up the shortie.

Um...no. Pens didn't let the Canucks breathe. Pens dicated play. Aggressive and hard hitting.

I take that back.. the Pens didn;t really dictate the play. Both teams were solid, but the Pens were better tonight. Clogging passing lanes, playing aggressive on the puck carrier. but the game was too close for either team to have dictated play...

So I just got back from dinner, and i know the score.
is there anything worth watching in the last 40m?

guys on the radio were talking about how shitty the ice was,
that it made it a pretty ugly game to watch.

Yes, bad ice. The norm in the new arena. I think this is the 3rd ice that has been laid so far.

Odd stats... I'm looking at FO%,
Malhotra 65%, Kesler 60%, Sedin 60%.... then I look to the Pens, and see
Letestu 60%, Crosby 55% wtf? who are they beating?

Malkin 0 for 8, Adams 0 for 7.

Orpik with another solid interview at the post game.

Not to be a dick about Crosby because he is obviously one of my favorite players, but he had this unreal quote about the powerplay in practice today saying that it was all about results and they were actually doing good things and just needed to keep doing what they are doing. What the fuck? Let me see if I can find it.

Edit:

On the power play:
We’ve created some really good chances. The power play is one of those things where everyone looks at the results. There are times where you’re not playing real well at all and you get one shot and it’s a goal. But you’ve got to look at how you’re playing and how you’re competing. We’ve done a great job and got some good quality chances, we just haven’t executed them. The goals will come if we keep doing that. I don’t think that’s a worry. But that’s a power play. Everyone wants results, and you have to put the puck in the net.

Holy shit. That is awful. Malkin NEEDS to get better.

Just noticed Malkin had under 17 minutes of ice time...anyone think this is because of his giving the Rangers game away on a silver platter?

I'd say that probably 60% of the powerplays we haven't scored on have been executed well...that's still not a high enough number. If you don't score on the powerplay, the goalie should be playing out of his mind. They don't keep it simple enough.

Without looking at the numbers, Montreal is a team that sticks out to me that hasn't had the talent the last how many years, but has had an awesome PP. Obviously, the weapons aren't exactly the same, but I fail to understand why we aren't emulating parts of other team's PP's.

This will make me sound like a moron, but I sometimes wonder if we shouldn't split up Sid and Geno. Yes, the point of the PP is to get all the best talent out there at once, but Sid and Geno like playing the same spot and they seem to handcuff each other at times. More importantly (especially without Staal), if the first PP unit comes off after 1:15, we are basically throwing three grinders out there because we don't have the depth to ice a decent second unit....effectively cutting our PP time by 45 seconds. It just seems when you're that horrible, you would try anything. I know this will be an unpopular opinion, but one minute PP shifts with Kunitz-Crosby-Dupuis/anyone but Dupuis and Cooke-Malkin-Asham might be a worth a shot, IMO. Why the fuck not? Sure, the opposite PK could focus on one of them, but we have some of the most mobile D in the NHL...PK puts two men on Crosby or Malkin, take it to the D and make them respect that option.

I agree with him. People look at results. The power play could be awful, but get a lucky bounce and score and folks will think the power play is good. The Pens have been generating some very good chances on the power play and just not have been able to capitalize. There power play is much better now then it was at teh beginning of the season when everyone was skating around all over the zone. They need to continue what they are doing and the goals will come.
