The gauntlet has been thrown.. Donte Hightower refused to ride in a Duck Boat for the Patriots' Victory Parade this past Tuesday. On Wednesday he announced that he will not be going to the White House when the team visits. Shortly there after, several African American Patriots were asked if they would go to the White House and be congratulated by Donald Trump. Devin McCourty stated that he's not sure. He doesn't agree with Trumps policies and he doesn't like the fact that Trump has been called racist. Blount said he will probably go. James White said he doesn't think he'll be going, but he's not 100% out.

Personally, the trip to the White House is to be congratulated by the President of the United States. No one is asking anyone to endorse anything political. I think everyone should go, be courteous and then leave. Football and politics are not bedfellows. You don't like they guy? Then stay home and keep your mouth shut.

I thought I heard DMac on an interview say he wasn't going. When pressed why he said he'd been there done that. Good on him not to fall into the media mess.
Same I heard Blount on one of the radio talk shows with Rich Eisen. Blount said he wasn't going to go that he didn't agree with some of the policies coming out of the White house.
D. Hightower when asked about the duck boats said he didn't want to be out in those elements chancing getting sick as he had a vacation upcoming.

Who knows? But I'm with you. Leave your political feelings out of it. Go if you want. If you don't agree with the President that's fine just don't use this for your political platform.

HT yeah there is something going on there. Maybe he's pissed he hasn't been given an offer already or if he did he feels slighted? But he's not dumb enough to let it go public. That would sign his one way ticket out of Bean Town.

Didn't they offer him last yr around 10m a year? IDK...like you said, something is off. He already said he is going to test FA and go from there. That tells me the only way he will be back is if they tag him. I would rather tag Bennett and draft a TE to groom for a yr. Although Housler might actually be a good fit with this team.

I don't remember if they offered him 10m. Hard to believe he didn't take that? I like him but don't love him. He's replacable if he prices himself out. He got his rings. So if he wants to get paid and find out what losing is all about he should go. His leadership will be missed.

Hightower does not want to be franchised. The Patriots have said that they will NOT franchise him at $15M. They believe that outside pass rushers like Von Miller may be worth $15M but inside LB are not.

Hightower is basically making the statement that he will not return to the Patriots. He has 2 rings and now he wants huge money. Some asshole owner will give him 5 years and $80M ($16M per)with $50M guaranteed and HT will get hurt in 2017 and not finish the season and will be out of football by 2019. He has not played a full season in the past three years.

Remember back in 2011 when the Bruins Stanley Cup team visited the White House and one player, goalie Tim Thomas, refused to go because he disagreed with Obama? Thomas caught a lot of flack for that snub. Now as many as 10 Patriots are refusing to visit Trump. I think Robert Kraft would have liked all of his players to go and may have even told them so, but he will probably not insist that they do. It is interesting that several of the "no shows" are also free agents this year. I already felt that the Pats might not re sign Bennett and Blount. Will this action also spell the end for HT as a Pat?

Doesn't matter to me if they go to the WH or not. Not sure why anybody else would care either. When the US started electing the worst of the worst for president some years ago all bets were off in regards to respect for the highest office in the land.

I don't think the Pats will try to bring Bennet back. One year rental in my opinion. The Hightower thing concerns me and I'd be bummed if they don't come to an agreement but it sure is pointing in that direction.

Well I sure hope BB just lets the players decide if the want to go to the WH. If BB even slightly suggests players should go if they disagree with the President I would lose some respect for him. Keep politics and religion out of the locker room.

He thought the duck boats were in the water. He was worried about what happened to the Giants after their boat ride.....
