for Canada at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial tourney as they fall to Sweden 5-1. Sounds like the Canadians fell victims to 'International Refereeing" (i.e. a couple of bad calls, Sweden scores on the PP, and then they lose their discipline).

lol...Yeah, if you lose 5-1, it's hardly the ref's fault, although these are 16-19 year old kids and it's tough for them to keep their composure if they think they are getting shafted by the refs. Coaching staff needs to remind the team that these things happen in international play.

Nice bounceback game today...

BRECLAV, Czech Republic -- Canada's men's under-18 hockey team bounced back from a disappointing opening game at the Ivan Hlinka memorial tournament by defeating the Czech Republic 6-1.

Jarrod Maidens and Morgan Rielly each had a goal and an assist for Canada, which opened the event with a penalty-filled 5-1 loss to Sweden yesterday.

Andreas Athanasiou, Charles Hudon, Sean Monahan and Matthew Dumba had the other goals for Canada.

Pavel Sedlacek replied for the Czechs.

Canada head coach Steve Spott pleaded with his players to adjust to the European style of refereeing and it seemed to get through against the hosts.

The Canadians take on Switzerland in their round-robin finale tomorrow.

The U.S beat Russia today 5-4.

Defenseman Seth Jones the son of former NBA player Popeye Jones made it through the first cut at WJC prospect camp. He's still 16 & already 6'3. Seth will be eligible for the 2013 draft. Three defenseman from last years team will probably make the squad so it's a tough lineup to crack. Scott Mayfield had two assists against Finland & he got cut. Jack Campbell will likely be in goal again.

Whoa!! This is the U18s, not the Little League World Series. :heh:

Nice rebound by the Canadian kids though.

It doesn't matter how teams start in these tournaments. It's how they finish that counts.
