Strike one was trading up. That nuts and everyone knew it was nuts.
Cousins was a late 1st-early 2nd round talent on my board that year. He was a steal
Agree on both points

I agree with you at the time of the draft. Last year till present time I disagree because of the way Cousins played and now the starter. To get Cousins in the 4th round and now current starter is a steal. I don't care what message it sends its a pro sport not kindergarten where you worry about feelings. RG3 was given the starting job and cousins was given the backup job as soon as they were selected. Having a quality backup QB is crucial in today's NFL game. Look at the Cowboys. If they had a decent backup they could have made the playoffs I feel. 1 injury cost them their season. Now for the record I don't feel Cousins is worthy of franchise QB salary and like that he received the franchise tag and not a huge pay day. I also have no problem paying him big money if he can duplicate last seasons numbers.

Doesn't matter if he was a steal thats just not something that should be done, especially after giving up what they did to get RGIII
But if they didn't take Cousins how crappy would the skins really be now. It was a great pick now looking at it. The only thing Shanny did wrong was continue to play RG3 after he got hurt in the playoffs. That hurt RG3 the most. Cousins was not a threat to rg3 and everyone new who the starter was. Giving up the world for RG3 was a huge mistake. No unproven draft pick is worth that much and Shanahan basically doubled down that draft by taking cousins. If rg3 didn't workout he had a backup plan with cousins which I feel now was genius of him.
Again I could not disagree more, it doesn't matter what they would be like now without Cousins, if as a GM you are thinking I better draft another QB incase the one I gave up way too much for fails you should be fired yesterday!
Without Cousins, the Redskins are probably in the same situation the Rams were with Bradford. Not ideal.
Well, I agree in theory, but Cousins was never supposed to be part of the Skins' long term plans. The drafted him because he was best player available. The hope was that he would tear it up in preseason and they would be able to deal him for a future first or second round pick.
Fortunately for them, Cousins blossomed late before he developed any real trade value. Others wise, he would be starting somewhere else.

Right now we are in the 4th round. Nos and everyone who wouldn't draft Cousins if he was available? So glad Skins have him or we would be picking year after year in the top 5 searching for a starting QB. This season will prove to me if he is a true franchise QB or just a good backup. Either way I feel he is a steal in the 4th round.
I don't play what if but if they have RGIII and he didn't work out who knows who else they might have gone after in the last couple years, i'm not convinced Cousins is the answer anyhow. Point is you don't give up so much to draft a QB then draft another QB in the same draft. I just think that is a foolish way to go about putting a team together.
I don't think that is the question but to answer your question, Yes but not in the same draft you traded a bunch of picks away to draft a QB.
Cincinnati told me almost two hours ago he needed a few minutes to pick...
Can we agree to disagree on our thoughts on how the Skins handled that draft?
