Karlson, Chara's had some very, very poor decision-making in the dozen or so games that I've seen.

Obviously I'm biased but I just don't see how Karlsson doesn't win it. He's got the best numbers offensively by far and he plays against the other teams best players 5 on 5. He also has a pretty good +/- rating on a team that doesn't have a huge goal differential.

Now, the argument people make against him is his lack of penalty kill time. He plays 25 minutes a night without much PK time. He doesn't play very often on the PK because MacLean is managing his minutes. He could play PK and he'd do just fine. In the past he's done very well at it and even now he'll get PK time if it's late in the game on a must kill. But why would he play 30 minutes a game or less 5 on 5 time when he can control the game for Ottawa when he plays more 5 on 5? Ottawa is a better team 5 on 5 when Erik Karlsson is on the ice. That's the bottom line.

I actually think of him as a two-way d-man, so the offensive numbers are just the icing. Letang would be on the same level, to me, if he had played more games.

I agree. More so if I didn't hate his guts but Letang would be up there if he didn't get injured.

So who is the Norris trophy winner this year.

May be a bit early but anyways. I would make a poll but I am just a dumb hockey fan.

I see it as Chara by far as the winner.

Shea Weber has been awesome this year as well but the Norris is about defense.

If anyone says Matt Cooke I swear to god I may lose my mind and neg rep for like a million years.

Wow you picked Chara. Who could have seen that one coming.

Picking a Norris winner based on points is stupid. Will Chara win it? No clue. Should he at least be in the top 3 candidates? Fuck yes. Overall stats > Points.

As much as I would like to see Chara win the award I think the voters will see a 25 point spread from 1 Karlson to 2 Byfuglien/Campbell 4 Chara 26 points back. To get the same point range you would go all the way down to 46 in defenseman scoring. Karlson is going to win it.

The Norris is often won on reputation so Chara will probably win it but overall I think Karlsson deserves it more this year.

Have to agree with this. What type of style does he play? Is he physical? Finesse?

He's just so smart.

He's a smooth skater with incredible hockey sense. He's not as explosive as Karlsson but he's 6'3 and uses his reach and skating to angle guys off really well.

More of a finesse player. In style he is Lidstrom-esque to me in a lot of ways.

They really need to have another trophy. Let the Norris be defensive, and have the best offensive defenseman win, say, the Orr. I mean, it's kind of ridiculous.
