2cents...........

If all of our references are pure speculation and you want to keep refuting our thoughts, then why don't you personally show us, cap space wise, how you'll keep Suh, whether he's extended or tagged.

Honestly 2cents, you've never stated how it can be done, keeping Suh that is, other than quoting what Mayhew has stated.

In the mortgage business we call this analysis paralysis.

Love the passion from the arm chair GM's but it's not gospel.

I have no clue as to where you come from RobBase.

Referencing many of us as "armchair GM's" and yet you were 1 of the biggest Mayhew haters here last off-season. You constantly berated him for his poor draft choices and FA's signings, horrible re-structures, every single problem with Fairley was Mayhew's fault, not being able to afford tier A FA's.

Lol, so basically when people stop to think about what they're agreeing to the mortgage companies try to package that up as a bad thing?

"Sir, it's best you don't do any actual thinking and instead just sign your name here for this outrageous loan that you'll never be able to afford."

Yep, sounds about right...

Some of the potential cuts mentioned are already dirt cheap contracts. I'd prefer to keep dirt cheap contracts that know the system Vs. new dirt cheap contracts that don't.

I don't understand why Broyles couldn't get on the field but I'd like to. If Ross is the reason then hopefully cutting him would give Broyles some reps. Ross was ineffective returning kicks and turned the ball over. The Lions should target a return specialist in the later rounds.

No offense to any of you guys, but nobody here knows the possible maneuverability of the cap better than Mayhew, whether you like him or not. To sit here and estimate that we will have to sign 10 UDFA, or not be able to sign anyone else is ridiculous.

Mayhew on the cap if Suh is franchised: "if we decide to franchise him, we'll have room". Also said the Lions will be able to "do some things in free agency" whether the tag Suh or not.

I'm not worried about them cutting players not named Levy, Quinn, Ziggy, Slay, Calvin, Stafford, Tate, Warford, or Reiff. Until you guys can prove we have to start letting guys go that were/are actually important to our success, I'm still ok with tagging Suh as a last resort.
Mayhew was also quoted as saying

“At any cost? No, I wouldn’t say that,” Mayhew answered.

So he's definitely not going to put the team into financial problems, atleast moreso than they're already in.

Why would I have to? You guys clearly did the math to prove it is possible right? And Mayhew agrees. And reporters closely associated with the team agrees.

I think I've made myself pretty clear. I've said it over and over. If cutting guys like Bush, Tulloch, and Jones, plus restructures to Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford, is the way to get it done, then its better than letting him walk for nothing.

My gut says "at any cost" means they won't lose Calvin to keep Suh, but that's purely speculation. I 100% think they'll at least match Suh's best offer from if they can.

Of course. Handing him a blank check is not the way to go. Giving him a 5 year contract worth $27mil/year is not, either.

Arm chair cap experts is maybe a better term. That other stuff was a long time ago. If Mayhew finds a way to keep Suh, all is forgiven.

Rates change everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. Clients often miss out on low rates and great prices by over analyzing things. It's my job to help them not do that.

If they're truly willing to tag him with a cap hit @36.9 then I'm certain they'd match any offer considering no team will exceed 18 million per.

Its all difference in opinion. If Suh leaves and we hit a grand slam in free agency, I'm ok with that. But we can only control one of those 100%. All I'm saying, if/when we tag Suh, don't go thinking its the end of the world.

I'm going to call Mayhew and have him get a deal done with Carolina. Ebron for Lotuleilei. You're all welcome.

Here's another hint why I think Mayhew is confident he can keep Suh: he passed on Aaron Donaldson.

If Mayhew really felt like he was going to lose Suh, I think he would have drafted AD instead,

Pure speculation on my part.

and here I thought, assumed, that Mayhew only drafted BPA, especially 1st rd.

I wanted Aaron Donald last year. Kid should become All-Pro soon. Great Talent he is.

Obviously Mayhew drafts BPA (Ebron higher on his board than Donald. Ebron was drafted by us.)

pure speculation of your thought "Mayhew would have drafted Donald" had he known Suh was going to leave. you cannot prove what Mayhew might have done either way.

OK, I amend it to "If Suh tagged and we don't restructure a bunch of existing dollars out into the future and make the team less competitive in the long term, then we have to sign 10 UDFA."

Dude, think about it. All we heard last off season from this regime is how it was playoffs or bust. Mayhew and co. is not here for the long term if they don't win now.

I get it. As fans we think long term. This regime is working to keep their jobs by winning the North, and hopefully winning the SB. They aren't building the team for the long term. They're building it to win now.

Just because you don't understand the cap doesn't mean there aren't others who do. This board has several people who know and understand it quite well. They arent arm chair cap experts, they are posters who can add.

Believe whatever you want. Since numbers can't lie but Mayhew can I'll base my beliefs off the part I know I can trust.
