so again, you are the one comparing the two.
the only thing they have in common is that they have recently been suspendable offenses, and then not.

I am comparing the 2 because it was brought up. I dont see either having any bearing to the other. I think one is way more egregious.

Yeah, but he is comparing the apple to the orange because they are both fruit, and you are focusing on the fact that one can be bit and the other can be squirted. :)

I think Murphy's explanation is even funnier than the fact that Burrows escaped without any further discipline. Only in the CFL, er NHL.

well theres news today that David Thomson has a minority interest in the Habs ... ie hes part owner of the Habs and the soon-to-be-Manitoba-Joose

so NHL = CFL yet again

Yeah, he's one of my favourites...I don't mind the fact that he wasn't suspended, but I think he should have at least be fined.

Oh well, on to game two.

Hey mellow out ! There are at least three games to play in this series so why don't we talk hockey and not some bullshit incident that will probably have no bearing on the out come of the series anyway.

Hockey rules! Great sport and tough to win it all, lets enjoy it. We could be NBA fans. :L

no biggie boss... it's an incident worth talking about*, and no one is getting out of hand.
or biting the hand that feeds them... or something like that

* - increases intensity between two unfamiliar teams
- new disciplinary boss in Murphy gets a chance to shine
- consistency between reg-season and playoffs calls
- it's Burrows, he's always good to talk about
- francophone on francophone violence, i'm surprised the Bloq haven't chimed in to blame Shane Doan

How is there no suspension? How is there no video evidence? Everyone saw it. Ruutu was suspended for the same thing, so precedence was set. This is the second time the powers that be bucked precedence this postseason, Nathan Horton squirted a fan with his water bottle and didn't get anything for it while that merited a game in the regular season.

I get the CC/Murphy tone it down a bit for the playoffs, but if the EXACT SAME THING happens, the players should get the exact same suspension. There's no gray area here.

Would have been nice if Murphy had just come out and said "Look, this is the Stanley Cup Finals. We are just going to let hockey decide this, not suspensions."

You could argue with his reasoning then, but at least it wouldn't come off as a lame excuse.

Normally I'd talk about precedence in this situation, but with a new guy making the decisions, and because it's clearly a one man show in making these decisions, I feel like a whole new set of precedence needs to be set.

I agree that a game would've made sense, and biting has no place in any sport, but a dude shoving his nasty glove into another players mouth is going to make it seem like the guy bit him no matter what, and clouds the intent for the guy making the decision on suspensions. If Burrows had went out of his way to get to his finger, then it's obvious what his intent was. Still though...in the Finals? When's the last time we saw a guy suspended?
