Technically the offense put up 21 points, and he did throw 2 ints. One key pick in OT.

Don't remember?

Of all of his ONE AND DONES, nearly all of them (if not all of them) have been against a 3-4 defense.

Not saying that he cannot do well. Just saying there are things to be concerned about.

There are things to be concerned about. If you are not concerned about anything, well, you are a truly devoted fan with hardly no experience of real heartbreak. Then again, we are only 9 months from one of the biggest if not the biggest heartbreak in the history of the franchise. \

Not concerned about anything? Is being concerned about things all of a sudden make my world not prioritized?

Funny stuff. Funny......stuff.

Your analysis and concerns seem to come from the perspective of a fantasy football player. Passing yards do not mean much. Historical statistics have very little bearing on the here an now. You seem to lean on historical statistics and stats in general to support your arguments.

I prefer to watch the games for my analysis.

The fact that Manning struggled statistically against a 3-4 defense 7 years ago only tells me that Colts team was not good at certain positions and the players on those defenses were probably very good at their positions.

Without seeing actual game film from specific incidents during those games, I would not be able to say with any certainty or conviction what actually was the issue there.

So those stats have ZERO bearing on the 2013 Denver Broncos Offense led by Peyton Manning.

Manning is more experienced, in a different offensive system with different players facing different defenses using different systems and facing different players.

The NFL is not Tecmobowl or Madden. Outcomes do not follow a statistical probability. You said it yourself, it's about the matchups. And opposing offenses have had some favorable matchups the last 2 games. Dez Bryant and Blackmon are top 10 Wideouts in the NFL. They are going to be a handful for most NFL Teams. No Von MIller and No Robert Ayers and only rushing 4 against good Offensive Lines (Cowboys have a real good O-line) will not result in much pressure on the opposing QB. Only late in both games were we able to bring good pressure and get a few sacks.

Really? Sure it was a disappointing loss, but to me, the loss to the Jaguars in 96 was even more heartbreaking. We missed an opportunity for a three-peat. At least the Ravens went on to win teh Superbowl, they played a better game and got some breaks in the end.

The Jaguars in 96 were not a championship caliber team.

Or what about the heartbreak of losing 3 Super Bowls over the span of 4 years? (We were even favored to beat the Redskins).

The SB loss to the Giants really got to me. If we punch the ball in on the chances we had inside the NY 5 yard line, we probably win that game. Instead we got zero points on two of those. Instead of leading 10-9 at halftime, we should have led 24-9 or even 24-7 at halftime (that safety to me was a bit dodgy too).

But again, that's all part of the roller coaster ride that following a sports team entails. Sometimes you get heartbreak, sometimes you win it all when the odds are against you (Like SB XXXII). But there's no sense in being worried or concerned. As fans we have no control over what happens on the field. All we can do is celebrate the successes and eulogize the failures.:noidea:

The thing that is not misleading is the fact that Denver is only giving up 3.2 ypa, which is a much better way to judge how a team is doing against the run. So many people bring up that teams abandon the run against Denver, but then fail to acknowledge that Denver is also second in ypa. Then again though, most of those people are not actually trying to have a conversation and are more trying justify their opinion.

Ok, I just realized something else and that is how bad KC is against the run, which absolutely no one is talking about. They are lauding how good they are against the pass and about their pass rush, but they consistently ignore that KC is 24th in yards given up against the run and that they have a putrid 5.1 ypa against them (which is second worst in the league).

How is no one talking about this and why are teams not going old school on KC and just pounding the ball down their throats? I am sorry, but if I was the Broncos head coach and we are playing KC, I am going 22 personnel and pounding KC into submission with heavy doses of Unrein and Ball with Moreno spelling on occasion.

Amen! I would just keep running it like crazy making them have to commit to stopping the run then keep hitting them with the play action and double moves by the WR's as they seem like they are getting a little too aggressive at times. Make those pass rushers have to slow down a bit to respect the run which gives Peyton a little more time in the pocket for the receivers to get open. Seems like a simple enough game plan.

It does and it has worked, until the Raiders got down on KC in the 4th and had to start passing they were actually looking like the better team last weekend. To bad they had to f it up in the end in typical Raider fashion.

Yeah Pryor looked good for the first half of that game...Made some bad throws and his teammates weren't helping him much but it just seemed like 2nd half he got rattled and fell apart. I don't see Peyton doing that. The Chiefs defense in watching it looks very beatable in many ways. I think a good quarterback should be able to have a good day against that secondary as they seem to rely very heavily on the pass rush getting to the quarterback. If a team can exploit that run game early and get up maybe a touchdown or two I honestly think the Chiefs would really struggle. Their offense isn't built to come back and the defense is built to try and make a team very one dimensional.

Honestly I had no idea this was the case. But to me that looks like another comparison between this Chiefs team and the 2009 Broncos.

Not really. 2009 Broncos were defending the run much better, allowing only 3.3 yards/carry.

Really? I could have sworn by the end of that season we were getting gashed on the ground. Didn't Charles go for over 200 on us in the season finale?

Look at the QB's KC has faced.

Gabbert - Romo - Vick - Eli Manning - Ryan Fitzpatirck- Terrell Pryor

Only Romo and Manning are prototypical pocket passers (Fitzpatrick is but he is not in their class) and only 1 INT by Manning in those 2 games and 5 total sacks against Dallas and NY combined. They did not have success getting pressure on a QB who can get rid of the ball quickly. Their success in the pass rush came against teams that are not good at protecting the QB and QB's who hold the ball too long.

Now that is not to say that do not have guys that can get after the QB but against Peyton a lot of that rush is negated. Tamba Hali is not an edge rusher with speed, He bull rushes and uses other techniques. Manning will be getting rid of the football before they can get there most of the time if the O-line and RB are doing a halfway decent job in pass protection.

Now the fact that their defense is 25th against the run and giving up an average of 5+ YPC against teams that are not that great at running the ball with the exception of the Eagles and the Raiders, I think the play action is going to do very well against the Chiefs.

I doubt they tip their hand with Unrein at FB and Ball running it up the gut. Too obvious. Save that for obvious short yardage and goal line situations. Moreno has been running very well, is the best RB at pass protection and a good receiver out of the backfield. (You know Manning talked to him about those drops in the meeting Monday as well as the rest of the offense and held them all accountable for their mistakes as well as held himself accountable for his mistakes).

Honeslty, I am not worried about the Chiefs defense. I doubt they slow us down much.

But on to Indy first to make Irsay eat some crow.

Yes, but I was comparing where Denver was in 2009 after 6 games to where KC is now after 6 games. Denver was playing well in all aspects defensively and look what happened. Doesn't paint a promising picture for KC if they're already allowing 5.1 YPC.

A good point, but not set in stone. It is possible they improve in run defense, but I think their success is also a bit due to the competition they have faced. None of their opponents have a winning record, 2-4 Raiders, 2 0-6 teams, and 3 teams at 3-3.

That's very true that they could improve their run defense. The big question is will they? Eagles ran them over, and they still won. They may be purposely concentrating on the pass thinking that passes would hurt them more than runs. :noidea:

Very telling though that against more quality QB's their pass pressure comes back down to Earth. Some of the KC fans I know attributed the 10 sacks on Pryor to their amazing pass coverage, because they occurred after 2.5 seconds. Could it be that he was simply holding onto the ball too long, and not seeing the entire field? Does a Peyton Manning come in and find an open receiver in the same situation?

And I wonder... how different is their "Big Three" of Hali, Houston, and Poe from Baltimore's "Big Three" of Dumervil, Suggs, and Ngata in generating pressure? Questions that shall be answered in about a month I suppose.....

Bingo. That's why they got 10 sacks against Pryor.

I just don't see this Broncos offense slowing down. Like I said, we punted 3 times against Jacksonville, and turned the ball over 3 times, and we still scored 35 points. That's 6 failed possessions. How many times will we have 6 failed possessions in a game?

The biggest reason why this offense is so much better than everybody else isn't because we just move the ball better than anyone, it's because once we get in the red zone, we are lethal. You just don't hold Denver to field goal attempts once we're inside the 20. We've scored 23 touchdowns on 28 trips inside the red zone. That is lethal.

By the way I saw a stat from pro football focus yesterday that said that when throwing under pressure, Manning completes 70% of his passes. Next best is Rivers at 58%.

Of course Manning has also been sacked the fewest times in the NFL.

This is why I am not concerned about the "theory" that high scoring offenses typically fail in the Superbowl or whatever that historical stat that BroncosBaller32 brought up.

This is the difference between the 2013 Broncos and those teams or even last years Broncos team. We have more weapons with Welker and Julius Thomas in the redzone and that, along with Manning and this offense being more experienced is why we are such a lethal threat in the redzone.

I'm glad Broncosball has finally seen the light. I've said for a long time that finesse teams wont get you where you want to go. Sure, it's nice seeing the great regular season record. It's cool seeing the QB put up pretty stats. But where did those pretty stats get BrokeNeck last season? He fell apart in the playoff game when his fragile body couldn't handle the cold weather. Finesse works great early in the season in warm weather, but its not what wins championships late in the season. You'd rather have a PHYSICAL team. I want a team that will smack you in the MOUTH. I pray I'm wrong because I'm a Bronco fan, but this team looks like a fraud to me. It will be a great regular season record, but then a loss in the playoffs when we have to play a more physical team. Sad but probably true.

The other thing is we don't even know if Manning's fragile body will hold up. He didn't look too good to me after he took all those hits in the Jaguars game. He went back to the locker room briefy and spent a lot of time throwing on the sideline to stay warm. This is NOT a QB that can take hits. Another game like that, and it might be a serious injury. I pray it doesn't happen. God Bless...

I stopped taking anything you had to say seriously after you said "Broke Neck".

He fell apart in the playoff game when his fragile body couldn't handle the cold weather.

Might be the most ignorant analysis of last years playoff game I have ever read. He threw for 3 TD's and almost 300 yards in that game.

He had an INT in OT that was a bad decision. That was it. Otherwise, he payed a great game.

The pick 6 was a deflection on a non call PI.

Absolute nonsense.
