This to me sounds like the coaches know that Tarell Brown is our best corner on the squad:

CSN Bay Area expects free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha to compete with Carlos Rogers if he's signed by the 49ers.

Asomugha is reportedly "torn" between the 49ers and Saints, and this is surely a factor. Rogers took a big step back last season, but had a better year than Asomugha. If the money is close to equal, Asomugha would likely be better off reuniting with DC Rob Ryan in New Orleans. Brown wasn't our best DB, Carlos Rogers was and still is. If Rogers can only get those 2011 hands back for 2013 it'll be more apparent.

At this point, I say screw Nnamdi & sign Abraham & DHB instead. Abraham was one of the only great players on that Flacons' defense last year.

Maybe even Michael Huff. It would mean the Niners can focus on DL in the draft.

Rogers is at the wrong side of 30 though. I highly doubt that he will be able to get back to his 2011 level of play. Last year, he had a good year indeed, but you can tell based on how he played in 2011 he was starting to show signs of declining. Coaches are being proactive in realizing this (Brown > Rogers in 2013 and beyond).

So if Nnamdi is signed, he would be competing with Rogers not Brown.

yeah, earlier was hoping for a situational pass rusher, someone for passing downs? but Baalke is forced to seek more value, and can't fit top guys like Dumervil and Abraham.

since none of these guys were willing to sign for less, we move on. glad he isn't forcing any FA's now, but looking after next off season.

...Oh wait, Ozzie friggn' Newsome beat us to him. Abraham is the last FA available who would be an upgrae over Haralson IMO. It's just for 1 year. GET IT DONE!

yeah, IMO he played well and is still on the rise. not saying he's a Pro Bowler in the making, but glad we have him.

but if someone wants to base it off the SB, obviously he had a bad game.
