And they have sucked at it for all 170 of those years. It's a terrible system. 170 years ago, that was the only option, but in 2015 baseball needs to evolve.
Maybe so, but then why not let a computer run the bases for you. How about having a computer as an ump at first, second and third. Hell why not have computers bat for you?

Don't get carried away. We still need humans to make the calls at the bases. It's not that the umps want to do a shitty job. It's just hard to get it right with the naked eye. We have better technology in 2015; we should use it.

P.S. Football needs to do the same to call first downs. Having the 2 guys come out with the sticks to measure is absurd.

That doesn't contradict what he said.
Read his comment again. He said "Baseball needs the computerized strike zone, humans suck at calling balls and strikes". WWJ are you drinking tonight??

I read it just fine and no, I have not been drinking. While I disagree that baseball needs a computerized strike zone, it is true that humans suck at calling balls and strikes consistently and accurately. I just happen to not mind the imperfection of the human element.

I don't have a link but I think I read on fivethirtyeight that umps get 91-92% of the balls and strikes right, and it's been that way forever. I'm fine with it.

No, I think you missed his point!!

I'm sure you do, because confusion runs deep with you. I can assure you I understand his point and cede his argument. I disagree with his conclusion, but not because I think he's wrong. I just accept the imperfection he correctly identifies as part of the game, while he wants to fix it.

Good then my comment of umps calling balls and strikes for 170 years and that we don't need "a computerrized strike zone", is okay with you too.

I merely pointed out - correctly I might add - that your comment didn't contradict his. I'm not sure why that's even a subject of debate.

It's all opinions, I respect his opinion, but like you I don't like his idea.

Whatever?? I'm not debating the issue of my comment contradicting his, you are.

The silly part about that is the placement of the ball is not done with any precision in the first place. Measuring whether a ball that was placed at a spot that the ref guessed at in the first place made it to an exact spot is a little ridiculous.

That's not good enough. That's almost 10% of the pitches in a game being called incorrectly. That could be 10 pitches called wrong for each starter in a given game. You don't think that is enough to influence the outcome of a game? Think again.
