Yes. They did not "get the out," which is what you wrote (and what matters).

No, what matters is showing you why throwing all those breaking pitches was smart baseball. Conforto swung and missed 3X, thus striking out.

You may now have the last word.

deGrom pitched a similar game to the fifth one in LA; gave up early runs but kept battling, limited the damage and got stronger as the game went on. Great job.

Wright busted out with 3 hits and another walk. Cespedes also got 3 hits and drove in a couple. Glad to see those guys participating.

And even the Duda, who'd been mired in a postseason funk had a hit and an rbi...and more importantly, it was his sac bunt that moved Cespy to 2nd,who then stole 3rd, setting the table for the run scoring K/WP to give the Mets the lead again in the 6th, that they never relinquished.

You have reached Aggie levels of arguing when you write a thing that is demonstrably 100% wrong and you continue to argue.

"They got the out."
They did NOT

I loved the bunt attempt.

I believe he was trying for a base hit against the shift, but it moved up the runner who eventually scored.

Maybe he'll try it again if he starts tonight. I can't imagine Terry sitting him after he managed to get a hit last night, and - more importantly - he did not strike out.

Like Conforto did two batters later

They did NOT

*How about this as a disclaimer ?

They got the "out", but due to a braincramp of their own doing, they then needed to get a "4th out" (if you will)

*Works for me.

Had to have the strikeout. Cahill did his job. If Conforto puts ball in play they will likely score. Cespedes had a 20 foot lead. Montero makes 13 million a year. I'm not saying it can't happen but go back and watch the pitch. It was a bad attempt to block as well.

Was also great to see Clippard have a solid 8th inning, even though he gave up the double to Fowler. Got 2 huge flyball outs of Schwarber and Bryant with a runner on 2nd. That could have been a large inning for the Cubs' offense.

LETS GO METS GO!!!!

I can't believe this team is one win away from the WS. What an amazin season it's been so far.

Glad to see Duda, Cespedes and Wright join the party last night. Only a matter of time before they all started waking up.

Can Matz close this one out tonight?

Also - there were a few of you that said the Cubs will sweep. Anyone willing to eat some crow this morning?!?!?

I thought it would go 7, honestly. I figured that Chicago offense would blow up in one or two games, and that they would at least split the starts by Lester and Arrieta. If anybody had said the Cubs would score five innings TOTAL in three games, I would have laughed...even with our pitching.

I'm as shocked as anybody that the Mets are up 3-0 without major contributions from several key hitters up until last night.

Please please please Mets close this shit out tonight.

Hammel has failed to complete five innings in three of his past five overall starts, going 2-1 with a 5.23 ERA. He's 0-3 with a 4.91 ERA in five career starts against the Mets, and he's allowed Murphy to go 6 for 11 with two doubles.

Curtis Granderson has also had success against Hammel, going 7 for 21 with two homers and two doubles.

Gotta jump on this guy early

Daniel Murphy has now hit lucky home runs in 5 straight games. Let's hope he hits some more lucky home runs in tonight's game.

Also, glad the stupid Ivy debacle didn't impact the outcome.

OMG, that F-in Ivy, I was losing it. You want to have f-in ivy growing on your outfield walls, yeah its been there forever etc etc, thans hows about adjusting the ground rules to todays technology, and have the umps use basic baseball knowledge and replay, to make rulings on whether or not 2 bases applies?

The best defensive play for the Cubs all night was made by Ivy.

Honestly, I think judgement should be granted to the umps as to whether or not a run scores on the play. I don't mind the rule that it's an automatic ground rule double, my issue is with the run that could have scored. Cubs fans would be saying the same thing if it were their team.

It should be at the ump's discretion. Conforto was already heading to the dugout by the time the ball reached the ivy.

That.

The umpires basically told Collins, "We HAVE to call it..."

True, but it has cost the Cubs before as well, not nearly a game of this magnitude however. As soon as the pathetic attempt by Soler - I was screaming to get in the Ivy

I thought Collins may have been challenging or asking if Soler touched it. Not sure if that would have mattered or not. I don't think it would. Glad it didn't decide the outcome though
