When is Ryu expected back? Isn't he not expected until the ASB or so?

I see your rotation as 1 Ace, 3 #3s and a bunch of of questions.

Ryu is on track to be ready for spring training, but with so much depth now, I'm willing to bet they're going to slow it play it with him and work him into the rotation a couple weeks into the season.

Serious question for you. What are Dodger fans' expectations of this rotation outside of Kershaw? Anderson took the qualifying offer after a solid year, McCarthy is on the shelf until mid season, Ryu is coming back from injury as well, Wood is relatively new to the team, Bolsinger was decent last season and Kazmir is coming from the AL. What you are expecting from these guys?

It should be just as good as two #1's and a bunch of #5's, which is what we had last year.

I wanted the Padres to get Maeda, but Preller is trying to go an entire off season without signing 1 FA.

He's expected to be ready at the start of the season. Urias is also said to be getting close to the Majors.

I've heard Maeda has worried scouts that he's more of a 4/5 starter rather than a second coming of Tanaka. Risky signing but it could pay off if he gives them steady production.

LA has a deep rotation, but a lot of question marks to go with it as well. All I know is outside of Colorado the NL West has some serious pitching. I'd say the NL West easily boasts the title for best starting pitching as a whole.

Maeda reportedly signed for 8/$24M with a massive amount of yearly incentives

If that report is true, then wow what a team friendly deal Friedman just pulled off. So under that scenario the max he could earn is $15M per season, which would be pretty reasonable for Maeda, but that would be best case scenario for him and the team meaning that he provided value to earn that money. Now the incentives are probably pretty easily obtainable but the more he earns means the more value he provided anyways. (Hell I was expecting at least $15M per season regardless so fuck it)

Now the only scary part is the 8 years portion, but I figure with such an incentive laden contract that if he doesn't perform well or gets a major injury or whatever that they'll be able to dump him before those 8 seasons. If Maeda is a Dodgers in 2023, then he had a really good career the way I figure it.

From what I've read he gets a base salary of 3 million per year, plus incentives that range anywhere from 10-15 million per year, meaning he could earn anywhere from 13-18 mil per year with the base and incentives included.

I wonder what the actual details of the incentives will be. I'm sure some of them will be easy to reach for him with others being along the lines of at least 20 starts or 150 IP, all-star awards, etc. I think incentives in contracts are hands down the smartest deals for teams. Because you actually get what you're paying for in most cases.

Denard Span...

I can only trust that The Giants FO believes he is healthy.

IF (IF IF IF IF IF IF) he is healthy, GREAT signing. But there is a HUGE risk with this signing.

Giants got the OFer they needed, maybe him and Pagan combined can play a full season in CF. The top 3 teams in the division not scared to spend money, and the Padres and Rockies sit below them twiddling their thumbs.

The Giants lineup may be one of the most balanced lineups in baseball right now if Span returns to speed. It's not unlikely that they placed in the top 3 in baseball in overall OPS.

That Maeda contract for the dodgers is incredibly team friendly. I don't recall seeing a pitcher betting on himself to this extent. He didn't even get an opt-out clause. Huge win for the team.

I'll be interested him pitch. I've read a lot of different reports about him. Sounds like the stuff is unquestioned, but can he hold up a full season? He's a little dude, 6'0" 161 lbs. That hasn't stopped another small NL West pitcher from dominating the league.

Maeda has some sort of serious injury concern, reports being that he will need TJ surgery within the near future. That probably prompted him to sign an 8 yr deal, knowing two years will be spent rehabbing surgery and working through the kinks. An incentive laden contract assures him that his salary could go up to as high as like 15 mil per. It was a smart contract on both sides IMO. If he flames out, 24 mil is what Magic Johnson has in his couch cushions. For Maeda, he gets the assurance of a chance in the bigs despite his elbow being close to shredded.

Thought it'd be 2 years with Guerra not expected to be ready until 2018, but it makes sense to get a stop gap SS rather than spend more on 3 or 4 years of Ian Desmond.

If you want to polish the trophy, I think we may have some extra here...

:suds:
Padres need it more more anyway, the Giants won't be getting any new trophies this year. :heh:

Not saying this is accurate, but even if it is, we still have lots of hardware that will need polishing...

And for that comment, you can no longer borrow our polish.

So there.
