Having a rule 5 guy throw a 5-hit shutout against you in his second career start is even more embarrassing than giving up 21 runs.

They fired Bud Black after winning their 7th game today. Not often you see a guy keep his job after back-to-back 100+ loss seasons, but it's kinda hard to argue against some kind of change when you start the following season 7-33. I don't put the blame on him, it's been pretty apparent for some time now that the Rockies are a very poorly run franchise. The Rockies pitching is awful, but the position players might be even worse. A team that plays at Coors Field is hitting .215/.283/.351 with a 71 OPS+ and 133 runs in 40 games. That they're struggling to average over 3 runs per game is pretty unfathomable.

Dodgers get swept

They are struggling with pitcher health again...they got healthy enough late last year though

Roeckell’s lawsuit goes on to note the Rockies’ performance, noting a particularly poor showing on May 10 against the San Diego Padres, and said the team’s record has “contributed to a game-day environment” that makes a “stadium culture in which socializing, dining, and business networking have become the primary focus for many attendees.”

His lawsuit argues that because of this, the Colorado Rockies should expect that people in the luxury suites are less attuned to the game and are therefore more susceptible to injury “from conditions that were not reasonably accounted for in the stadium’s design and maintenance.”
If only there was some way for people planning to attend Rockies games to know in advance that there will be a good chance of the team performing poorly. Perhaps an index could be devised, published, and disseminated that would detail previous outcomes of games and totals of runs scored and allowed by the home team.

I honestly don’t think anyone can stop the Dodgers this year - they are just loaded all around. I think they are the clear cut favorites to win the World Series again

Rockies become the 3rd fastest team to 50 losses in history. Only the ramshackle teams 1876 Cincinnati Reds (9-56) and the 1884 Kansas City Cowboys of the ramshackle Union Association (16-63) were faster. Not even the legendary 1899 Cleveland Spiders were this atrocious. The Spiders were in all respects a farm team of the Cardinals, forced to play in the NL. The 1876 Reds and 1884 Cowboys were newbies in new leagues that can barely be called sports leagues (the Union Association couldn't). The 2025 Rock-Bottoms exist in an era where bad teams are given lifelines, drafts, luxury tax dividends, TV money. It's sad that a team can be this inept now

I can get behind saying they're the best, but I think they're far from perfect. I just don't like their rotation at all outside of Yamamoto. He's their only SP with 5+ starts with an ERA+ even north of 100. The rotation has the potential to be a lot better than it has, but it's depending a lot on oft-injured guys (May, Gonsolin, Snell, Kershaw, Glasnow). Even the bullpen hasn't been great. I get some 2003 Red Sox vibes, I think they'll go as far as that offense carries them. It could go down as one of the greatest offenses in MLB history though. Not only has Ohtani picked up from where he left off in 2023-24, but Freeman's putting up some insane numbers himself (.374/.440/.638, 200 OPS+), and Will Smith is putting up some insane numbers at catcher (.342/.454/.517, 176 OPS+). Crazy part is, he might not even be the best catcher in 2025 (Cal Raleigh has a 187 wRC+ lol)

You are right about their pitchers being often injured, but when healthy they have a talented pitching unit. I just don’t see who can stop the Dodgers - they just seem like clearly the best team - in the NL the other best teams seem to be the Phillies/Mets/Cubs/Padres, and I’m not sure if any of them can do it, the Phillies do have very good pitching so they might be the biggest threat. And the AL doesn’t seem very strong, I have a feeling we may see a rematch of the 2024 World Series this year with probably the same result.

Long season, most of those guys will be back and Ohtani is like trading for another pitcher after the all star break
Because pitchers coming off TJ always throw awesome right away. Especially with no rehab to work out the kinks.

It's wild how he isn't going to do any rehab, where did you hear that?

He did pretty well after his first TJ surgery too.

You think they will send him down for 3 weeks to rehab his arm?

OK…
He's already throwing off a mound, he doesn't need to be in the minors to rehab. But sure, keep expecting him to suck when he pitches again after the ASB
