2019 ZiPS Projections – San Diego Padres

The pitching still projects to suck, but the assemble of position players looks pretty good. There are some intriguing arms on the way, though I still think 2020 is a more likely year for them to contend.

As cool as it'd be to see the Padres reach the postseason this year, it seems unlikely. Even if they finish 2nd in the division the wild card teams will come from the central or east. They could sign Keuchel to improve the SP but I'd rather take a shot at the FA pitchers next offseason. Guys like Allen, Paddack, and Quantrill should get some major league time to show flashes of their potential while also going through typical rookie struggles.

I agree. Our starting pitching is still way below where it needs to be to make us legit contenders. I think next year we should start showing real potential. But as a life long Padres fan, hope springs eternal.

I was kind of expecting it. Offensively pretty much fielding the same team the past couple of years. Unfortunately there are no quick fixes and this team is going to have to rebuild
