Tanking is of course hard to quantify. If for example, the Reds decide they can sign Bailey or Cueto, choose one, trade the other ... then Bailey essentially is out for 2 years, doesn't pitch, comes back uneffective ... then they spend 3 years filling in with 4A bad pitchers ... see where I am headed here? It isn't all intentional and sometimes there just isn't the same emphasis on what is needed.I was actually quite shocked to see how badly KC has fallen. It is time for MLB to have a minimum floor cap to keep
teams from tanking for 4-5 years.
But I agree ... the rent-a-winner is bullshit and fans sooner or later will get tired of buying WADE DAVIS jerseys in the pro shop.
I think we blame the front office too much sometimes. Rosters are sometimes more luck than skill for small markets.
