Not sure if I posted this before but John Mabry needs to go as hitting coach. STL hitters TAKE so many strikes and then are behind in the count. Their approach at the plate it pitiful. I am sick and tired of Danny McAwfuline saying that Carpenter is such a great 2 strike hitter.

SWING THE FRIGGIN BAT....

I'm still trying to figure out how John Mabry became the hitting coach to begin with!

With Carpenter, Fowler, and Wong all hitting in the 100s they need some better hitting instructions from somebody!

John, Now the Cubs wouldn't be playing fair if they decided to go run off and hide would they?

I guess all is fair in love, war, and taking a lead in your division in baseball.
Cubs have a very long history of not winning anything. Their window is open and probably will stay that way for awhile. It helps to have a fat checkbook.

What a debut by Nick Kingham today, not sure how we can send him down after this.

I cant believe our rotation is doing this well with all these 1st and 2nd year guys in the rotation.

Props to Kingham...he had the STL batters confused..that slider was impressive. Hope he can continue this, obviously not the perfect game. I believe he will strike out of the Cubs free swingers also.

John, I hear you but the Cubs know how to win one run games and the Cardinals don't!

Now go get those Brewers for me in the rest of your series with them even though they don't concern me as much as the Cubs do. What am I saying since we can't even beat the Pirates?

Cardinals seem reliant on the HR ball at the moment.

7th in ABs per HR but 19th in OPS. Lead the league in being caught stealing bases and 0 Triples.

I'd say the Cardinals have been striking out too much but that seems to be affecting the rest of the league more.

The strike zone. It's all over the place. I don't see how hitters can have a clue.
When pitches knock a hitter out of the box and it's called a strike, then the next pitch is at the ankles and is called a strike, let's not just blame the game. Umpiring has become a lost art. I think they're jonesing for a robo strike zone. Already on the bases, they call anything that looks good and let "New York" correct it for them. Is that intentional? I doubt it, but there's less urgency to get it right. If the appeal fails, the umps just keep on calling it "as they see it."

But the strike zone that I've been seeing has hitters just standing there wondering what it's going to be on the next pitch.
Yeah, there are some swingaholics but they are learning that they have no choice.

Mark, Welcome to our NL Central party here.

I'm a newbie here too but I've already made several friends and I look forward to reading your posts.

John, I have a good friend who is a retired baseball umpire and he tells me that the two biggest problems he sees with many of today's umpires are:

1/ They are out of position to make the proper call

2/ They anticipate too many calls before making the proper call

MLB umps don't have to be in position. They make the call and wait for the dugout to challenge it.
Either way, it's not their problem.

Have been long in favor of cutting back the season to 154 games. This would allow each playoff to go 7 games.
no more November baseball!!!

Swept at home by the Brewers, the Reds are establishing themselves as the worst team of the 21st century.
If you think this is funny for someone who has watched a team for 60 years, I wish you bluebirds. We are now hoping it gets so bad that we can put the 62 Mets out of their misery.

I haven't seen more called strikes than on this STL team. I am tired of Dan Mcawfulin saying how good Carpenter is with 2 strikes. Many called 3rd strikes also

Mark, That's not a bad idea although I don't think MLB would ever go for this because it would do some damage to their bank account.

John, I guess you're right and the sad thing is sometimes it takes 5 minutes to rule on the challenges.

John, I don't think you are going to put the 62 Mets out of their misery because they were bad, really bad!

I was hoping your Reds would lend a helping hand to my redbirds with the brew crew in town because we need all the help we can get but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Sometimes baseball is really hard to understand because your Reds played well in the series against the Braves and I think the Braves have now taken over 1st place in the NL East.

Am I seeing things or have the Cardinals won two straight one run games? Well, that was against the minor league team from Chicago but the major league team from Chicago comes to town for a series beginning Friday and I'm not sure that things will turn out quite as well.

The 1962 Mets had a better record after 31 games and it's not even close.

Season isn't too long. The post-season is too long.
