You gotta think the top OG's in the league make about 8-9 mil a year, your top pass rushers say 12 mil and that might even be low. You are looking at 20 mil there. Lets look at the salaries of the guys you will keep that you listed on the other thread.

NaVorro Bowman $3,105,562
Ahmad Brooks $6,650,000
Tarell Brown $1,907,314
Michael Crabtree $5,770,439
Chris Culliver $704,719
Anthony Davis $3,566,666
Vernon Davis $8,739,916
Jonathan Goodwin $5,016,668
Frank Gore $6,450,000
LaMichael James $754,295
A.J. Jenkins $1,578,984
Andy Lee $4,050,000
Mario Manningham $4,887,500
Ray McDonald $2,561,985
Bruce Miller $570,612
Justin Smith $8,000,000
Joe Staley $2,800,000
Donte Whitner $4,833,334
Patrick Willis $3,605,125
Alex Boone $1,940,000

So just in those guys there you have 96.15 . And that is without Revis, Kaep or any backups and none of the guys getting any raises outside of Kaep. Is Revis really worth say Whitner, Davis and Iupati? Because that is about what he would cost you a year.

New York Jets GM John Idzik reaches out to star cornerback Darrelle Revis - ESPN New York

The two sides haven't engaged in any contract talks, but that should change in the coming weeks. Revis is scheduled to make $6 million in 2013, including a $1 million roster bonus due around March 20. Before then, the Jets have to decide what to do with their best player.

------------------------

Revis' asking price could be an obstacle, though. He's believed to be seeking at least $16 million per year, with $60 million in guarantees, roughly the free-agent contract defensive end Mario Williams received last offseason from the Buffalo Bills.

Oh he will hold out until he gets paid. He already said 16 mil is his starting point. Which means he will get more than that.

Yep, again now that I think about it, screw that. Save the money and pay Goldson, Aldon, Kap, and Iupati...Trading Alex away will save cap room as will cutting Akers...We can definitely net a 3rd rounder for Alex.

So you think cutting 3-4 of those guys is worth Revis?

Justin Smith has 1 year left on his deal. Manningham is most likely gone next season if not he is on the last year of his deal anyway.

Keep in mind that Tannenbaum is considered more of a cap specialist with somewhat limited experience in personnel in comparson to other front office people. I think that's why alot of people are making a big deal of this. I'd want the full story and context on this before I would begin to judge Tannenbaum for this myself but I'll pass it along anyways.

Ian Rapoport: Wow. Andrea_Kremer said on TA that Tannenbaum asked Revis 3 days after surgery, "Do you have any ideas who we can sign to replace you?"

Are you guys sure he means 4 years 70 million? You're sure it's not 5 years?

70/4 = 17.5. 70/5 = 14.

Nnamdi Asomugha averages 12 million a season, and he's over-paid (I was one of the most vocal anti-Asomugha people around by the way). Chuck Woodson averages like 11 million.

He really expects to get 33% more than the 2nd highest paid CB in the NFL? That's absurd. I agree that 16m per means he can go eat a whole bag of 'em. 14 per? That'd be a little more reasonable.

Mario Williams type contract isn't unreasonable for THE best defensive player in the league.

The VP of Carnage is already locked up for a while.

Or did you mean JJ Watt?

:)

Ok in all seriousness, an all-pro' caliber pass-rusher should cost more than a the best CB in the NFL. In other words, Mario Williams is more valuable than Revis.

By the way, is it incumbent upon every sport writer in the world to always get it wrong with Mario Williams? People still say that was a dumb signing, and he had 10.5 sacks coming off a major injury. These are probably the same people that said Houston was stupid for passing on Reggie Bush.

I would go 13 million for him 14 I could live with. Anything over that no thanks and to me 15 million+ is QB and very very good pass rusher range.

But we have to give a serious kick of the tires on this one and see if we can work something out.

Adding Revis (assuming he can return to form) to the defense combined with our pass rush and the emergence of CK and the offense who beats us if the team plays at a high level?

Using the Falcon game for example Revis would lockdown Jones, we could double team White and TG, and provide enough time for the pass rush to get to Ryan. We wouldn't be down 17-0 and we would finish with more than 1 sack.

And in the future paths to the Super Bowl we're going to be seeing the Falcons, Green Bay, Saints, and other teams with strong passing attacks.

For the kind of money Revis to demand I would say get away from him. Keeping a core of solid players to me seems better than getting one great player and having to let some of the core walk. Goldson I think is as good as gone. But We will have Kaep, Iupati, Anthony Davis, Justin Smith, to maybe resign in the next couple of years.

Well I am not going to say Goldson is gone just yet. The team will save money by trading or cutting Alex Smith and reworking other contracts like Justin and Whitner..They may also cut Goodwin as he will be 35 this year and due to make 5 mil. The team likes Kilgore and believes he can start at C, plus they have Joe Looney as well...The priorities to extend longterm this year is Goldson. Next year it will be Aldon and Kap.

That is assuming he comes back completely from an ACL injury that if it even slows him down a little could turn him into just a good CB. He isn't worth the money and the picks you'd have to give up. Already been said he wants franchise QB money. You're talking at least a 1st plus 20 mil. That is 1/6th your teams salary.

Aren't you the guy who said there was no reason to believe that RGIII would return at less than 100%?

Now you're using the exact opposite argument against Revis coming back 100%.

It's called consistency.
