^ Really what you expected and if anyone says anything bad about the deal, remember look at the contracts on the Penguins blue line. :L

Oooo, that could be a strategy. Just lay out some actual contracts at the blue line. Might trip a few guys up and be just as effective and after copying costs are covered, you have a lot of money left for forwards and a goalie.

Another strategy might be invite Tom Wilson to your practice and see which guys are best at evading hits.

What reason would Detroit have to try and move any young core players, though? The Wings are in a prime spot to exploit the expansion draft desperation and add assets.

They could make huge steps forward in a short period of time in the next month.
Season-ending back surgery at 26? Yeah I'm good. If he has that much perceived value around the league cash the hell out and let him be somebody else's problem.

What the hell?

Edit: here’s the hell

Ouch

"That deal, signed via offer sheet with the Philadelphia Flyers, was heavily front-loaded. There is $12M of actual cash remaining. Nashville, which matched and was where Weber played the next four years, would have a “cap recapture” penalty of slightly more than $4.9M per season through 2025-26 if the defenceman retires."

I figure he’ll go on LTIR. At least David Poile is praying he does lol.

TBH even if he was bound to really decline pretty shortly regardless that’s a huge loss for the Habs.

Kypreos was roasted for this last year (check the replies) but turns out he probably had it right and before anyone else (ie: people who didn’t want to risk their access):

As they should. This league will simply not tolerate cap shenanigans.

What are the Sabres giving Seattle to select him?
I'd give up quite a bit. Two 2nds maybe? I'd even seriously consider a protected (top 10 maybe) 1st.

That contract is certainly the worst of the current CBA with the 7/8 year limit and the worst in Sabres history (yes, even worse than Ville fucking Leino). Almost certainly a top-5 worst of the entire cap era too.

Florida is one of Jones' rumored preferred destinations. FLA, CHI, DAL.

This saves them $4 million this year and $1 million next year, then adds $1.2 mil for two seasons.

This makes less sense than the Minny buyouts lol. They have their first rounder why didn't they just use it to get Seattle to take him (unless he wouldn't move his NMC).
