I missed the second period (hey, had errands to run), but based on the unbiased opinions at Calgarypuck, they feel Despres deserves a suspension. I have yet to see the hit.

I...I dunno about that. Hard to tell anymore though. The puck was there, Smid was reaching for it (I believe he had touched it, FWIW), Despres lined him up, Smid saw it coming and was caught between wanting to play the puck and avoid the man. Looks like Despres may have left his feet and did make contact with the head. If there is supplemental discipline, the whole "upward motion" thing may come into play. Considering what Bortuzzo got for his hit (much worse), I'd be surprised if anything happened.

The other thing is that he laid into SMid when he was in a vulnerable position. Didn't let up at all. In fact he exploded through the hit, resulting in the head contact.

All that being said I don't think Despres gets any sup. disc.
