Perhaps someone can send this memo to Paul Maclean. His constant practice of throwing Neil, Greening and Phillips over the boards last year was nauseating.

It's nice to see Greening scratched for this game but MacLean needs to bench some of the vets who struggle this year or the season won't play out any different than last year.

Gibson has pulled the sly knock off your own net deal once tonight. The refs also called Spaling for hooking as he was in midair after being tripped. Took a Pens goal away with a goalie interference call after Geno was pushed into Gibson. Rough second period here.

Pretty good hockey through one period between Nashville and the Sens. Good standard of play for the first game of the year.

MadChad? Nahhhhh, he's alright. Certainly disagree with him on many things, but is what it is. He happened to have the vine.

I suppose I should give the refs a bit of a break too...they have some rust too. Been a rough go in the first two for them though. Only one I really didn't like was the Spaling penalty...well, and that penalty shot.

Also: Olli Maatta is going to be a complete, utter, ridiculous, beast of a player. 20 years old, still putting some meat on the bones and learning. 3 assists (and *nice* assists) tonight through 2 periods. He was only cleared to play yesterday after labrum repair in the offseason. Man, he's good.

Oh, and Sid. He's good too.

It's even funnier in a zoomed out look. Ehrhoff was coming toward him laterally...probably a 75-80* angle. They cut to a commercial after that play, and came back saying "there's a penalty shot". Super confusing moment.
